Two good pitching staffs went at it tonight. I think both teams used 3 pitchers who all did well.

Some district winner now gets to go up against Craddock in the opener.

That's really good pitching that deep in a game. Love Blaine Walters. Fun kid to watch pitch. Conner has to be kicking themselves for pitching Nick against Boone and not tonight. Wouldn't you say?

Conner gave up two runs in 13 innings, I'd say pitching wasn't the issue. Not sure where he would have made huge difference if he was on mound.

I'm pretty sure that Conner's first hit in the championship game didn't come until the 8th. Nice 14-inning stretch of no-hit ball by the Cooper staff.

I believe you are correct Clyde. The starting pitcher for Cooper, Conner Phillips I think, went 7 innings of no hit ball. It was a great ball game.

Why? At the end of the day the Boone game was the game they had to win. They don't win that, their season was over. You don't take chances in that situation, you pitch your best to ensure your season continues.

Are you saying they needed to throw their number 1 pitcher to beat a team that went 3-20 this year.... just to be safe? I think they were safe throwing 2-5. Hindsight, the pitcher they did throw did very well in the loss. This would have been a bigger issue had Cooper won, say 3-1 in 7. What I believe happened is that the coach wanted to insure Nick got the school record for wins and thought pitchers 2-3 would beat Cooper or Ryle.

There is no tomorrow if you don't win today....Ryle 2016 ...ziggy didn't start, lose district. Ziggy doesn't start rd 1 of regional, lose regional. I believe Cov Cath made the same mistake the same year...bounced in 1st round.

Look at Harrison Co. this year. After beating Nicholas Co. 38 consecutive times and winning 14 District Championships in a row, while defeating Nicholas twice this year by combined scores of 17-3, the Bluejackets defeat the Thorobreds 9-5 in Championship game and pound the ball all night. At least both teams move on. Survive and advance!

I'd be totally shocked if the coach put an individual record ahead of moving on to region. Conner right now doesn't hit much and I'm sure that was his reasoning.

Yes I am saying that. It would be simply dumb not to. You don't chance your season on one game. A team can be 0 and 23 and all it takes is winning the 1st round district game to make the region. Or vice versa a team can be undefeated and even pounded a team before, however it just takes one off day in that 1st round game to make your season be over.

At the end of the day winning the district is nice and possibly gives you a better first round matchup. However the most important game is the 1st round game which determines if your season ends that day or if you make the region.

They made the only and right decision they should make by throwing their best in the 1st round game. You win that game and just hope your number 2 and 3 can get it done the next game.

As it is even as a district runner up. Conner is in great shape because of the ace they have to throw in the first round. Which sucks for the district champ who has to face them.

I can't wait to watch coach Collins and the jags in the region! Go win the region!

We can agree that a 1 seed will not like drawing Conner.

We can agree that one 1st 1 seed will not like drawing them.

Since we do seem to disagree on this. I have a question on what you would do in this given situation.

1st round district game. Winner goes to region, losers season ends. One team is big private school, and ranked in the top ten in the state and just won the state title 2 years before that. The team they are playing is a small 1A school with a below 500 record and even had a lost against Silver Grove that season. That top 10 team also beat that small school 3 weeks earlier 7 to 0 with their number 4 pitcher throwing a one hitter.

Should that top 10 state team throw their Ace who is undefeated and going to Western on a full baseball scholarship. Or should they throw their number 2 or 3 or even 4 since the 4 pitcher just shut them out 3 weeks before. In that situation which pitcher should that top 10 team throw in that first round game against the small 1A below 500 school?
