WYMT Mountain Top Ten

Who has Pikeville beat to justify them a #3 team in the mountains and jump over teams like North Laurel ,Clay County,Harlan, Breathitt County and Middlesboro?

Pikeville is 3-3 with wins over (1-3) Prestonsburg ,(1-4) Allen Central and (3-3) South Floyd

Only 1 of Pikevills win came against a team with a .500 record and that was South Floyd who btw has beat (2-3) Magoffin County ,(1-5) Jackson County and (1-5) Betsy Layne.

Pikeville might be good enough to be in the top 10 but no way should they be a top 5 team.

By the way, Middlesboros wins are as follows:

Lee Co., VA (0-3) Scored two TDs all year, 1 on Middlesboro

Pineville (2-3) Wins over Jackson Co. (1st yr of football), Berea

Lynn Camp (2-4) Wins over Perry Central and Pineville

Cawood (2-3) Wins over Hancock Co., TN (Jackson Co. beat them for their first and only win in history) and Evarts

And you are dogging Pikeville's schedule? Their only easy games have been district games. Middlesboro's wins have come against the easiest schedule in the state of Kentucky. Middlesboro shouldn't be in the top 10, much less 5th, with this schedule...

BTW, I never said Pikeville should be a Top 5 team...

And Pikeville has played Henry Clay, (great game!) East Jessamine (good game) and Belfry(hung with 'em til the end.) Yes, they were loses, but we actually played with 'em! If I am not mistaken, these are all ranked teams in 2A, 3A, and 4A. Enough said.

:sssh: Hey, easy, see my earlier post. I guess we all get to decide if enough has been said, sorry. But Harlan has played well. Defense ranked in state, played strong against Breathitt (ranked 2A team). Shut out Hazard at home (not been done often), and Overwhelmed Lynn Camp ( ranked team). Again read my earlier post dude.( or dudette as the case may be)

Our schedule other than Central so far has been weak but M'boro was under contract with Lee County (enrollment 900 should be better than a team with just over 500) and maybe Lynn Camp:confused:.

Pineville is a cross County rivalry game (I have been on here for years now saying i wish we could drop them from our schedule).

Unlike Pikeville though the toughest part of our schedule is still to come with Corbin ,Breathitt County ,Harlan and yes even Leslie County will be tough.

Pikeville should win out but with teams like Phelps ,Jenkins ,Hazard and Paintsville coming up IMO they still should not be a top 5 team (Maybe a 8-10).

I know this is going to come off as "defensive," but oh well...since you brought it up:

I'll put the time I spend watching film, making practice plans, monitoring study tables for our players needing academic help before and after practice and on Saturdays, etc. (including the 9 hours yesterday and the 4 hours already this morning) up there with any high school coach in the country.

And add to it, it's where -- unlike SOME schools in Eastern Ky. -- the head coach teaches a full-load of classes and has 3 different academic daily.

As was proven in "The Shining": "All work and no play makes Jack want to slice people up with an axe."

But it's funny that you point out I'm "wasting time" when the ONLY break this coach has taken on the weekend before he gets his team ready to play Phelps HS is to get on the most highly trafficked website in the state about his profession.

I look on BGP often as part of my job...not for "fun." 1) I check out whether or not our players are posting garbage on here and 2) to address with my team any posts that -- knowing they read this site -- could serve to hurt our team (like a lot of talk worrying about our TOTALLY SUBJECTIVE "ranking" right now and monitoring opposing fans' one-sidedly disparaging our players by pointing out "classless" behavior by only our players).

Sometimes, it's appropriate for me to post something for all to see; most of the time, it's best not to post anything and address it solely with my team.

Now, back to film grading for a few more hours. But I'll be back to "waste" more time later.

(PS...don't want to burst any bubbles, but there's maybe one or two ;) other coaches in the state that monitor this site for what's said and :sssh: even post once in a while:eek: . BUT...they're :sssh: not openly telling YOU who they are...probably for fear people will call them out for "wasting time" looking at a website about HS football.)

:irked: you are right. It comes off as defensive, and judging by the responses, intimidating to some of the folks on here who for some reason seem afraid to stand behind their comments. Being from Harlan, and not a coach but a Dad and a fan, I can tell you your program stands for itself. And your preparation shows in your fine team and program. But that is mirrored across the mountains, by coaches, who I dare say spend as much time and effort, for less recognition and money. It does them a dis-service IMO to air out your frustrations in public. And I'm betting your wishing your players weren't reading this on this forum ( at least I hope you are ). Your kids will get you to the top 10. They usually do when it counts.

Sorry if my post came across as harsh, but I just wanted to get the facts out there. Everythings cool....

Never meant to "intimidate" or disparage in any way any OTHER coach -- a few of whom I KNOW also spend 90+ hours a week away from home with their teaching and coaching duties in-season.

I stated up front I realized it would come off as "defensive." But I'm not sure how it came off as possibly disparaging to any other coach...was only responding DIRECTLY to one person's implication toward ME that I was wasting time on a message board rather than doing what I should as a coach (wouldn't want my players thinking THAT now!).

Only REAL point of mine originally was to get message out to fans and players that read this board (from the people that have the most influence over the direction of the program) what we would hope their attitude toward any "in-season" polls would be.

Once again, to our players and fans: if our playoff position was based on polls (as it is in the NCAA), it would matter. Since it doesn't, use them for what they're most useful for...print them off and use them as a liner for your birdcage.

I see what your saying here because last year a few players on my team had subscriptions on here & the coach would talk about him knowing we had them on here & if we couldnt separate our emotions from this site from our emotions about our team & our game then to not look on here & also he talked about how this is an opinious website & that's all it was, peoples opinions & he did not want there thoughts to affect us weather it be good or bad. He didnt want us to get the "big head" or get our confidence boosted or deflated because of what someone types on a website.

I don't see how people can put Pikeville ahead of Breathitt when Breathitt completely dominated Pikeville in a scrimmage at the beginning of the season by a score of 28-0. I know scrimmages don't matter, but when Belfry was beaten by Johnson Central people uproared about it. Pikeville may be 7 through ten but number 1-6 in my opinion is currect.

Our schedule other than Central so far has been weak but M'boro was under contract with Lee County (enrollment 900 should be better than a team with just over 500) and maybe Lynn Camp:confused:.

You still didn't answer why Middlesboro should be top 5 at this point? Or even top 10???

Middlesboro (Class 2A) schedules Lee Co., Pineville, Lynn Camp, and Cawood as their non-district games, in an effort to pad their win total.

Pikeville (Class 1A) schedules Henry Clay, Belfry, Prestonsburg, and East Jessamine as their non-district games.

Can you see the difference?

Maybe whoever votes in the Mountain top 10 feels that M'boro is the 5th best team in the Mountains.

Cawood is a district game so next time do a little research before you throw them in.

Our non district schedule is Knoxville Central (TN 4A) Lee County (VA 3A) Lynn Camp,Pineville and Harlan.

As i stated earlier we are under contract with Lee County,Pineville,Harlan and maybe even Lynn Camp so we have to play them.

No team on the Pikville schedule is in the same class as Central not even Henry Clay.

Cawood still stinks bad...Middlesboro has still not beat a good team...under contract with Lee Co., Pineville, Harlan and Lynn Camp is a result of padding schedule...still no reason for Middlesboro to be ranked....:creepy:

My point exactly...they don't know...

Middlesboro has still not beat a good team
Neither has Pikeville.

Middlesboro and Harlan is usually a very competitive game. Harlan doesn't roll over for them, and won't this year or any year. They play Harlan because its good local competition. Harlan plays the Jackets because its good to play good competition. These schools are 50 miles apart. It makes sense for them to play. And how could you say Lynn Camp was padding schedule? The issue everyone is trying to get to can't be resolved by team bashing. Its fine to argue the point, but goodness!!!!!!!!!! The only folks who know the why's and hows are in the YMT studios.
