April 11, 20179 yr This x 1000....All about personal freedoms and responsibility. I just don't know how you can truly be free if you can't consume what you desire. Instead the government decides what is best for me.
April 11, 20179 yr Which do you think is worse for the human body, alcohol or marijuana? Option C: Fast Food
April 11, 20179 yr I will say for rhe 100th time I'm for legalizing everything and allowing consenting free adults to make their own choices. If that ruins their lives or leads them to a life of crime so be it. But I do not think.comsumption should ever be a crime. That's where you completely lose me. If they want to get high and lay in bed eating Cheetos all day that's fine, if they come into my business or on my property to steal to pay for their drug use (legal or not) then I have a problem. Don't say, "Well then lock them up" it's not that easy. I'd be willing to bet the average thief steals many times over before getting caught, leaving a string of innocent victims in their wake.
April 11, 20179 yr Author I just don't agree with it because of the effects it has on the body, that goes for anything not just alcohol. You've never felt the effects it has on the body though, no?

Your example is a crime that harms other people and we have laws to put people in jail for theft. My consumption has no direct affect on anyone but myself. It is not the governments job to predict what I might do but to punish me for what I have actually done.
April 11, 20179 yr Author Which do you think is worse for the human body, alcohol or marijuana? Alcohol and it's not even close. But it's the only one I partake in too.
April 11, 20179 yr Alcohol and it's not even close. But it's the only one I partake in too. I'm thinking I might have a beer or two tonight. I promise I won't get the urge to get in my car and commit a crime, either.
April 11, 20179 yr Alcohol and it's not even close. But it's the only one I partake in too. I would say it depends on amounts consumed in each case.

You said you were fine with it leading them to a life of crime, well who do you think the victims of that crime are? The rest of us. We do put them in jail for theft, but what percentage of thieves get caught? It is a very small percentage of thefts that ever have a recovery, for most people it's a total loss. As far as it not being the governments job to predict what might happen and punish you for it, you against DUI laws as well? DUI is illegal because it COULD lead to injuring others, should we just let everyone drive drunk then prosecute their corpse after they wreck and kill someone along with themselves?

DUI is another topic. But I do feel current laws are becoming to Draconian. We will never agree on this topic. I believe in absolute freedom most people don't. When I say absolute I mean on actions that do not directly impact another citizens rights.

There is only one potential victim of consumption of a product, the person consuming it. Any crime a person commits is a separate decision from the consumption that the individual makes. Funny that people don't apply these same standards when dealing with guns. Me owning a gun is not a crime. Me owning a gun and making the decision to shoot and kill someone is a crime. By your logic, we should ban the gun because owning one COULD lead to injuring or killing others.
April 11, 20179 yr Anyone who hates alcohol doesn't sound like much fun. That's really a very odd statement, assuming you are serious and not being "tongue in cheek".

My point was that there are already laws that deal with potential harm to others and DUI is one of them. My biggest issue with drugs isn't with the actual drug use (or consumption) it's with the crimes the drug users commit to support their habit.
