Mr. Warmth (Don Rickles) Passes at age 90

Featured Replies

Very sad. Rickles was one of the all-time greats. Always made me laugh!

He was good at the insult type comedy. His targets got a laugh from it as well as the audience.

He was on Carson a lot, and if Sinatra or Dean Martin was on that same night it was a treat.

"Hey, Frank, make yourself at home. Hit somebody!"

Don Rickles was a comedy genius. Could some just starting now use his brand of comedy without someone getting up in arms?

Wish I had a dollar for every time I've watched his bits from the Dean Martin roasts.

No way, no how. We're too fragile these days. Famous people are too concerned about "their brand" coming under fire. The thing that saved him is he was self-depricating along with it in those days.

Watched some clips for Dean Martin's roasts of several celebs where Don Rickles was giving them the business. There were shown on prime time network TV. One was of Sammy Davis Jr. Between the Jewish (Rickles was Jewish) jokes and the black jokes it would have caused someone to have a coronary today.

Jimmy Kimmel had a pretty good tribute of DR on his show...and he struggled at times to get through it. Apparently Don had a big influence on him and they were close!

Check it out if you get a chance. I think the man was a comedic legend and i love the insults and no PC approach!

I was fortunate as a child in the mid to late 70s in that my parents let me watch Johnny Carson. Great memories and Don Rickles was a big part of that. He used to get Carson laughing so hard he couldn't talk sometimes.
