April 5, 20179 yr Looking to start a small collection of fruit trees on the property I just purchased in Greenup Co . Probably a few different types of apple , a peach tree or two . A cherry tree . Maybe even a pear.
April 5, 20179 yr Not that I know anything about it, but my parents have a cherry tree that's mega productive. It gave so many cherries that I had to throw 4 pounds into my mulberry wine because we couldn't eat them all before they'd spoil.
April 5, 20179 yr I only know two things. One is that certain trees need another tree to polinate with. The other is that pruning is very important to fruit production. I don't know how to prune them, I just know it's important. Some can be planted singularly. Some are male/female so you need a male and a female. Some are hemaphrodite, but still require a second tree to cross polinate. Whomever you buy your trees from should know. If they don't know, then go somewhere else.
April 5, 20179 yr Greenup County They should be able to help you out with what will work best in your area.
April 8, 20179 yr Buy dwarf trees. They are easier to prune. Apples are all grafted now, so you can grow more than one kind on a single tree. Research pears, eating or canning. Cherries, sweet or pie, etc. Peaches and apricots that will grow in Kentucky.
