April 6, 20179 yr Obama missed the boat. Why he didn't get on BGP and find the solution for this Syria mess is beyond me :lol2:. A terrorist organization controls half the nation. A cruel dictator propped up by Putin controls the other half. We loosely support a group of revels trying to fight both and each other. Trump has his work cut out for him.
April 6, 20179 yr He drew then line and failed. I'm not the president. But your post seems to defend his mistake ? It's obvious the actions he took did nothing to improve the area and in fact emboldened those creating chaos. I'm looking for an alternative solution to what Obama did in 2013 that Trump might be able to use today. In 2013 Congress and Trump refuse to support a military strike and argued against it but they seem to blame Obama for not making a military strike. What are our alternative solutions and which one is the best? What action should Trump take in response to this chemical attack by Syria?
April 6, 20179 yr If you mean that's when AQI changed their name to "ISIS" then you're correct. However, if you mean the formation of the group based on beliefs you are incorrect. ISIS was a name change for AQI which dates back to the early 2000s. You can talk semantics but the poorly planned withdraw allowed for the vacum for the groups power to grow.

I will give my idea soon as you admit this was an Obama failure and quit flipping the story to congress.
April 6, 20179 yr Author I will give my idea soon as you admit this was an Obama failure and quit flipping the story to congress. I want to know what you think Obama should have done. As has been mentioned Obama himself said that one of his biggest regrets while in office is how he handled Syria. What should he have done?
April 6, 20179 yr The civil war in Syria had been going on for two and a half years when Obama did not order a military strike and instead agreed to the chemical weapons arsenal removal. What should Obama have done? You've mentioned the chemical weapons being removed a few times now...wasn't that what was just used? If the President's biggest success as you seem to be saying, was the removal of chemical weapons, then I think that also failed based on the actions of the past week. Chemical weapons still there and being used.

What should he have done? I'd like to know what he says he would have done different. Only the hard stuff makes it to the President's desk, because the easy decisions are made way before they get to his him. President has to make the tough calls and no matter what any of them decide, there is an entire establishment ready to tear it a part. #ItAintEasyBeingKing

Could he have attacked without congress approval?

I thought you were talking about the US at first. :jump: I agree Obama's big failure was to not involve BGP nation. So, I believe we should - looking forward - put a proposal forth. I'm going to have to think about it first.
April 6, 20179 yr Author I don't know. Do you think that's what he regrets, not taking military action? IMO, yes. That seems to be the one thing he didn't do was take military action.
April 6, 20179 yr I will give my idea soon as you admit this was an Obama failure and quit flipping the story to congress. Sorry, I don't consider this a failure. I don't consider it a success. The one thing that was clearly a failure was Obama making a threat he did not follow through on. If he had never made the red line comment, then I think most people would consider the end result of removing chemical weapons from Syria a success. I believe a Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to someone because of the chemical weapons removal. I am hoping whatever action Trump decides to take leads to peace in the region. That is the only thing I would consider success.

Seems like a failure I don't give Bush a pass on bad intelligence why would we give Obama. The chemical weapon removal was proved to be a complete failure this week.
April 6, 20179 yr There are reports that the Syrian government did not use chemical weapons that a terrorist storage warehouse was hit and destroyed in an air attack. Toxic chemicals ( ie. chemical weapons) in the terrorists possession were released by the destruction of said warehouse. Who knows?
