This looks to me like Trump's biggest test since taking office. Obama has been scorned for the way he handled Syria's chemical attack in 2013. In spite of Obama's "red line" comment, Obama did not take military action - instead reaching an agreement with Syria where they admitted to having chemical weapons and let inspectors come into Syria and take all the chemical weapons they could find. At that time Trump said Syria is not our war and Obama should not take military action.

 

Since then, Obama has been chastised and ridiculed for how he handled the situation. Trump seems to have forgotten, or chosen to create an alternative history for himself, and join in the attacks on Obama's handling of the situation, even though he himself said no military action.

 

Now, President Trump is faced with virtually the same situation. It is going to be interesting to see how Trump handles this now that it is his issue to deal with.

Didn't Obama ask Congress for authorization to attack Syria and was denied that authorization?

The President felt he could authorize military use without going to Congress but decided to involve them. He didn't get support from them. He also didn't get any support from allies including Britain. Add in that the citizens of the US also did not have the stomach for it. One of the most vocal citizens saying to stay out of Syria was Donald J Trump.

 

Now President Trump will get to see if he stands by not only comments made as a non-POTUS but also comments he made as a candidate saying to let them handle their own problems.

 

Now he's in the big chair. Let's see how he proceeds.

I saw this question posed today. Is it odd that when we are contemplating military actions against Syria, what to do with N Korea, and are in an investigation regarding Russia that the POTUS proactively calls the NYT to have an interview about Susan Rice and to say Bill O'Reilly is a good dude?

Based on his actions and words I'm really not even sure what to make of any of it at all.

None of the first two painted the line in the sand. That is on one person.

 

What happens next is on Trump and I hope he takes more decisive action . There are two truths that can't be denied. Obama's badly planned withdraw from Iraq created ISIS and he drew the line in the sand and did not back it up.

 

Now the world watches to see if Trump cleans up Obama's mess as Obama failed to clean up Bush's failure.

 

But to try to lay any blame on anyone but Obama for Syria in this country is dishonest.

He drew then line and failed. I'm not the president. But your post seems to defend his mistake ? It's obvious the actions he took did nothing to improve the area and in fact emboldened those creating chaos.

If you mean that's when AQI changed their name to "ISIS" then you're correct.

 

However, if you mean the formation of the group based on beliefs you are incorrect. ISIS was a name change for AQI which dates back to the early 2000s.
