In small schools like Ludlow, Dayton and Bellevue you will see a 4 to 5 yr cycle where they compete for maybe 1 or 2 yrs in a row against the Beechwoods and NCC's but then there is a stretch where they wont. It is the downfall of not having the numbers year in and year out. Bellevue had great teams in late 70's/early 80's....State Final runnerup in 1990... Pretty good teams from 98-2000 behind Nate Berkley and co. ....last year 2005/06with Lincoln Adams and Schmitz..... not sure about Ludlows years, I know in the late 80's they made a nice playoff run ....I know Dayton had a nice stretch in the mid 1990's with Skirvin where they SHOULD have beaten Beechwood and advanced.

 

Its just a numbers game and like I said.... it isnt going to be there every year.

 

As far as the future... I hear Bellevue has a very good Midgets team...so that is about a 6 yr away plan if you are thinking about how they may compete.

 

:thumb: I completely agree, these small schools do go through cyles.. As for Ludlow they had really good teams in 97 through 99 with LD Bell, Jeremy Mills, Weaver, Mckensie. In 1999 they gave Beechwood the best game out of any team in the playoff that year and were tied 0 to 0 going into the fourth, but ended up losing. Then it wasn't again till 03 when Ludlow got it going again, so there definitely is cycles with these small schools.

 

My little brother plays on the Ludlow midgets team and they are tied with Bellevue because they are also undefeated. So looks like we will have some nice little matchups for years to come.

I heard the same thing..... weather basically didnt help any of the teams that were on the losing end of things when play stopped on friday night. I don't think Bellevue would have been any different. Unless Lincoln Adams and Nate Berkley suited up and acted like Bellevue tigers... recovering from a 30 pt deficit was probably not in the cards.

Welcome to BGP, but apparently they didn't want to play the second half or other wise they would have because it takes both teams to agree on what to do with a game. So that means Bellevue must agreed to giving the game up and not playing the next day...

It does take both teams...but with HC not having their own field and a officiated crew that had a game on Saturday...means that the game couldn't be played until this week. Which would mean that it would interfere with preparation for the next opponent.

Well Bellevue had a few mistakes... actually a lot of mistakes and they couldn't seem to move the ball on O. IMO Holy Cross has one of the best duo's of running backs with Penny and (#29) i think its Moore?? but they are good hard runners and Bellevue couldn't stop them on every play. They had a few big runs and that was enough for the HC's offense to get rolling.

I have to agree with the AD's on this one. Obviously, Bellevue was in a huge hole to dig out of. I beleive they had to choose their fight on Friday, and fighting Mother Nature, Time, Fields, Officiating Crews, and the bottom half of the score board was a lose/lose situation.

Don't forget that both teams had to agree to the cancellation. What possibly could Holy Cross gain from playing again, a possible knee injury to one of their star players? They came out healthy. Why chance injury when you are in position to win the district?

Yeah after HC goes up 42 nothing and takes all their starters out, and Bellevue might then score 14 points against the backups to make the score look closer....
