Holy Cross vs Beechwood (Freshman)

Holy Cross Freshman are now 6-0 and had no trouble controlling the game.

Well oldcoach, no offense to you but this might be one of the worst Beechwood frosh. teams in a long while.

Dominate?

If you call a 110 pound running back gashing the defense every time he touched the ball .................... then I guess that Holy Cross dominated . . . . . . .

Holy Cross played a good game . . . . . . good being the key word . . . . .

As someone who puts the words "coach" into their screen name . . . . some would expect that you would know the difference between "dominated" and playing well.

If all that Holy Cross has is a fast, skinny running back then i would have to say that the Tigers from Bellevue might have a chance to beat them, because their front line on Def. is large and quick.

Define "gashing." Are you saying he had a lot of success?

No really--is this a trick question?

If not--I feel like I am back in 3rd grade.

8 yards per carry for average (on 9-10 carries). . . . . . . with about 4 for more than that.

And for 110 pound kid who is barely 5'0"--that is gashing . . . . .

This game didn't shake out close to the way that oldcoach is trying to make it look like. Holy Cross was definitely the better team tonight--and they played a good game . . . . . . . . but it wasn't a "domination" by any stretch of the imagination.

No tricks. I was just trying to see how well the kid did considering they only scored once. 8 YPC is strong. Why only 9 or 10 carries?

Im sure that the kid has speed and he maybe strong but that still doesnt negate the fact that Beechwood is nowhere near as strong as last season

Also i am wondering if all HC has is a runningback? how is their D and their passing game

This year is a little different. We have some kids (who play a lot) who have never played football before. So, we try to work on all facets of the game. (We are still trying to win--but we try to stay very balanced and get as many kids involved as possible--while utilizing plays that work). So the jist of that is--we tried to throw the ball as much as we ran--and the passes were incomplete in the 2st half (which ended drives). In the 2nd half, we started to hit a few (which extended some drives).

You do know that this is the freshman game we are talking about right???

What does that have to do with any part of this conversation?

No one said that this team is as good as last year's team.

You know what--last years freshman team wasn't as good as the team from 2002 . . . . . .

And a little hint for next time . . . . . . lets see where these kids end up. Some of the best state championship teams at Beechwood have had poor records as freshman. I have a crazy feeling that they will continue to improve. And that is what counts.

Awesome. I like winning as much as anyone but as I've said 1,000 times on here, FROSH and JV ball should be first and foremost about development.
