Elaine Douglas has been fired as girls basketball coach at Rowan County Senior High School.

 

Douglas had been head coach since the 2014-2015 season. She had a 46-41 overall record while with the Lady Vikings.

 

Ed Jones, co-athletic director at RCSHS, said the district simply needed a coaching change.

 

“We felt like the program needed to go in a new direction,” he said. “We didn't see any improvement between the beginning of the year and the end of the year.”

 

The Lady Vikings were 10-20 on the season. They fell to Menifee County in the district tournament last week.

 

“(Elaine's) a great person. She communicated well with parents and the girls, but we were not going in the direction we needed to go,” he said.

 

Douglas was a former assistant coach at RCSHS under Jen Williams. She also coached at St. Patrick in Maysville from 2007 to 2012 and Eastern Brown (Ohio) for two seasons.

 

Jones said the job opening should post Monday online and be open for 10 days.

 

A search committee comprised of at least one player and one parent will join RCSHS administrators to review applicants, Jones said.

That's what I as thinking. Who goes out and says "We didn't see any improvement between the beginning of the year and the end of the year." Something doesn't sound right... That's just not something you say to the public.

Elaine Douglas is a great coach and I smell a rat in this situation.

I heard that 2 girls tore their ACL, is that true? And their best player transferred. Is that true? If so I don't see how she can control that.

Yes, I think that's a partial injury list. And any transfers.

A player on the search committee? I have never seen that one.

Large population of head coaches in Rowan County. They should have no problem finding a replacement.

It's hard to believe they would have a parent on their search committee.
