I am a bit shocked Pendleton is larger than Mason. Where are all of those people hiding/living in Pendleton County? And look at Brossart, less than 1/6 the size of Campbell, yet over something like their last 20 meetings, Brossart wins half of those.

 

People often mistake Mason to be this really big school but they aren't. They really shouldn't even be 4A in football, they don't have but like 30 kids on the roster which is sad.

This has come up before. Mason's overall enrollment is a few above Pendleton's due to having more girls. The two schools have been neck-and-neck for several years.

 

One possible reason is the presence of St. Patrick at the bottom of the hill.

Bracken County enrollment has gone up in the past few years. 3 years ago it was around 340.

 

But I am shocked at the big jump between Bracken County and Mason County. And yes Bracken County would be considered a small school as compared to others.

 

The KHSAA takes the Title IX reports and sees what percentage of those kids actually participate in athletics. And being a rural school with most kids being lower to middle class, it's not a high percentage.

 

However I don't know how this thread got to this point. It is about the Bracken County/Harrison County game. If you feel the need to talk about this start a new thread.

Looking solely at enrollment, one has to be at least mildly surprised at a few things.

 

A. Augusta's success of the last 4 or 5 years. Remarkable.

2. The emergence of Paris as a regional power. Not a total surprise in hoops, where 2 or 3 players can carry a team for a couple of years.

D. The tremendous success of Mason County for the better part of the last 16 or 18 years. The smallest of the region's "large schools"; to be acclaimed as the Commonwealth's team of the decade (2000 - 2009) is something special for a school of their size. And Brossart gave them everything they could handle for a few of those years (as did Augusta in the current decade, obviously).

Fun fact. The total boys' enrollment of the nine regional "small schools" is 857, just 47 more than that of Clark County.

He was in an arm-sling tonight. But he's playing til he's not!

If the polars bears play zone most of the game - its definitely over for the breds (no Free at 40%+ beyond the arc). In a man to man, there is still hope. Overall, its really comes down how well Crawford plays. If Crawford imposes his will then the bears move one, breds go home. It will be interesting how the breds will guard Crawford and co.

This is a bit off topic, but in the game Friday night vs Robertson Free made a 3 early in the 1st quarter then looked over to the HC student section and said "I've got ice in my veins" and pointed to his forearm. Thought it was a bit odd/funny to do that in that situation.

It's a bit of an inside joke. A kid from Robertson and that tattoo on his forearm that says that.

 

Bracken isn't going to cakewalk through this game whether he's playing or not. Harrison is a dangerous team when the get to playing well.

Totally agree.

I would say they would handle Crawford the same way they handled Allen for Pendlryon in the opening round of district. They sort of let Allen do his thing while keying in on the role players. I wouldn't say it is going to be a cakewalk but it will be tough for Harrison is Free is out!
