South Laurel @ Lincoln Co.

Featured Replies

LC was close to winning a lot of their games last year. They got almost all their players back. Opposing teams better bring their "A" game if they plan on

beating the PATS.

LC will win by 3 scores.

I don`t see anyone in the district beating them this year.

Next year they should be better if French doesn`t lose any players.

WOW!! Even better next year?? Wont they be losing Calhoun and Miller?

They will be losing 2 good backs that will be hard to replace but they do have a very strong junior class. Several good backs....Reed, Young, Denson, Brummet, and last but not least a soph. named Calhoun.

IMO the line play on offense and defense will make LC tough to beat.:D

Lincoln County and South Laurel have met only twice on the gridiron (I am not counting 7 games with Laurel County High School). South Laurel leads the series 2-0.

Lincoln County is riding a three game winning streak coming into this contest. The Patriots lost the season opener in their own Death Valley Bowl before ripping off three wins in a row for a 3-1 overall record and 1-0 in District play.

The questions that will be answered Friday night are:

(1) Can South Laurel stop Lincoln County's potent running game, and

(2) Can Lincoln County stop South Laurel's passing attack.

Those were the same 2 questions that I had prior to the NL/SL game. I don't think that SL can stop LC's running game, but I also don't think that LC can stop SL's passing game. The winner will be the team that slows down the strength of the other. The turnover winner might also win the game.

Even though South has had a tough time getting going this year i think South will come out ready for this game after losing to North. Lincoln is good and I think it will be a good game.

What are the results of the old Lincoln-Laurel County series?

What are the results of the old Lincoln-Laurel County series?

Laurel County led the series 5 games to 2:

Year Winner/Score

1975 LaC 40-0

1979 LiC 21-8

1980 LaC 9-7

1991 LiC 40-21

Lincoln County High School began in 1974. The teams were in the same sub-district from 1975-1980. They didn't play from 1981 thru 1990. Laurel County split into North and South for the 1992 season.

I remember the 1980 game very well. Laurel County won on a chip-shot field goal late in the game. Our defensive end, Timmy Alcorn, broke through the line seemingly untouched and was right in front of the kicker when the kick was made. Had he crossed his arms instead of keeping them parallel, the FG would have been easily blocked. Instead of winning 7-6, we lost 9-7. Even though that was 26 years ago, it seems like yesterday.

So this game is at Lincoln Co, right? Here at Boyle Co. we have no game this week, this would be a good time to see others teams play, so you just might have a Rebel fan in the stands this Friday night. As for a prediction, I think the Pats. will win this one.

I like Lincoln they have the ability to pound the ball. They will take away the ball from Soth. If they can stop the pass key word being stop they will win big.

Those were 4 of the years that Coach Larkey was the coach at Laurel County, until this season, I believe his record against the Patriots were 10-0.

By the way Lincoln County rolls in this one.

Not taking anything away for a great coach in Tom Larkey but he did manage to miss our best years. Lincoln County's combined record during the seasons that he was 10-0 against the Patriots as a coach (75-78 and 2000-2005) was only 35-67 (.343)

1975 3-7

1976 2-8

1977 5-5

1978 4-7

2000 6-5

2001 3-7

2002 2-8

2003 2-8

2004 3-7

2005 5-5

For the other 22 seasons, LCHS was 179-82 (.685) and recorded two AAA Runnersup (1990, 1993), three Regional champs (1988, 1990, 1993) and five Regional Runnersup (1979, 1981, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1999)

Please don't take this the wrong way. I truly believe that Coach Larkey is one of the greatest coaches in the state of Kentucky. I am just pointing out an interesting fact in response to your post.

make a difference in the game?? I think so. South throws alot and Lincoln pounds the ball using the running game. If the rain comes I think it helps Lincoln. But rain or not.......Lincoln wins this one and will be in the best position in many years for a playoff berth....maybe even to win the district:sssh:
