2017 NKY Youth Football

Wow. Nice effort by Coach Montgomery's boys. Small program whipping a large program...always love seeing that.

This Walton group is 45 and 3 over the past 6 years. Lots of weapons on both sides of the ball. Great coaching staff as well!

How many Super Bowls?

0... 1 st loss came at the starter level to Bengal tigers at the starter bowl. 2nd came by the way of erlanger lions midget youth year in a mud bowl... loss in over time... and midget year starting QB had a fractured growth plate in his hip... "still scored" ... and starting full back had a torn achelles... loss to Taylor Mill eagles 6-7.

The starting group played up as Jr's last year so they never had a JR youth season.

Needless to say that Walton group is VERY hungry!

What is #4s name kid is a stud.

What is #4s name kid is a stud.

Yes he is.... but he is only 1 of 3 backs that can score at will. His name is " A Bearcat" as this team is a brotherhood!

Mainly because the best thing for the development of a young football player isn't to stand on the sidelines...it's to be ON THE FIELD getting reps and applying what you're learning in practice.

Look, don't get me wrong, I get wanting to be a part of the culture of the school you will be attending...it's obvious that's a big pull. And that's great for your A/B+ type 6th graders....but not for your B- and below kids who will be spending ALOT of time on scout team in practice (and yeah that can really be brutal) and on the sideline in games.

Then think about your MS coaches - and there are several - who make it clear 6th graders (except the studs) won't play. Hell, some coaches even say they don't want them behind closed doors, but then tell those excited/"let's get them in the culture" parents that they love 6th graders and will play when they know it's a lie.

The NKYFL is a wonderful league that gives kids an opportunity (see playing time rules) to learn the game the best way they can --- on the field.

So when you have a ton of kids from SK heading to middle school and enjoying the season on the sideline, any observer has to ask -- why? Is it SK or is the parents?

I think there a multiple reasons. For one, I think their is a greater pride playing for your school rather than your local youth league. I think kids and parents see this as the next step to high school ball where you have the same culture. Another possible reason is to try to get away from the daddy/buddy ball that is the NKYFL. Now, I'm not saying all teams do it, but I've seen it for years with different organizations.

NKY Bengals 10u just beat Blanchester tonight. Blanchester team has won 40 plus straight games. That streak ended tonight.

Great win by the NKY Bengals! What happened in the 8u game? Heard there were some questionable calls in that game?

Also, any truth to the rumor there are a lot of unhappy players with the Bengals organization trying to get out and back into the NKYFL?

My friends kid caught the game winning td with 30 seconds left. I haven't heard anything about unhappy players.

Too bad they don't play in the National division against teams like Bengal Tigers, Union Raiders, Red Devils and NKY Bandits every year.

Know your divisions...South Kenton plays in that division too. Walton trounced them.

Anyone who minimized Walton's defeat of SK this season doesn't know the NKYFL atop well. If they whipped SK alike that, they could compete against the upper division -- well, everyone but CC Red Devils that is.

You might want to go check out the SK Junior team play sometime. Even FFR74 has said they are playing several 5th graders up. Might also want to check out the scores of their games too. Lost 0-21 (WV), lost 0-40 (Union), Lost 0-20 (Red Devils) and other game vs BCR is listed as a 19-0 win for both teams. (So if they did beat the lil Rebs that means they were shut out 3 times and beat a team that has scored 6 points in 4 games. If they lost to BCR, then they are 0-4 and haven't scored a point in 4 games). Regardless if they did win the BCR game or not, the SK Junior team is not very good this year.

Walton may be a good team, but the game against SK does not prove that. Anyone who would try to use Walton's defeat of SK as a justification that they could compete in the upper division dos not not the 2017 NKYFL Junior division very well!! (See how I did that too)?

I did not make my original post to downplay what WV has accomplished, or say they wouldn't be able to compete against any teams. I just said it would be nice if they did play in the upper division this year. In my opinion there are only 2 teams that have a realistic shot of winning the super bowl, and it would be nice if they had some better competition.

SK Junior team is 0-4 they will return 8 kids plus the Junior Yth kids next year and will be a very good team next year. They are taking their beatings and know it will be pay back next year. They play with pride. I know my sons midget team last year beat Walton with no problem.

And the Competition in the Junior and Senior Divisions will get worse and worse as many Parents and Kids realize that they can now play in 6/7 grade divisions at the Middle School Level for there school teams instead of a youth program.

Benefits I see is that its way much cheaper to play at middle school levels, most coaches are also teachers which seems to help, learn plays to get them ready for the high school game, most games are on week nights which free up parents from weekend games at a youth field all day, get to play for your School just to name a few...

From what I see the Competition at the Middle School level is pretty fine, saw an 8th grader make a 53 yard field goal...wow. All kids get playing time with most teams having enough to field all levels. With Middle schools having 6/7 Grade only Teams Now, JV teams and 8th Grade teams also, I see many going over to Middle School programs early and leaving the youth game to the elementary kids...
