Looks like the matchups of the week are Taylor Mill/Spartans at Beechwood & Bengal Tigers/Bandits at Mills.

 

Best games should be TME/SPY Midget game (both teams undefeated) and BT/NKY Junior game.

I watched Spartan Midgets (3-0) defeat Taylor Mill Midgets (2-1), 21-6. Still haven't heard the result of the other game. Hoping the NKYFL website gets updated soon to see who won that one. I was going to try to hit that one, but couldn't make it.

That's a pretty big win for Walton...one you wouldn't have seen the last 3-4 years. Where the heck are all the Junior age kids or really talented JY age kids that should be making up that team?

 

I get being a young team...but SK has been strong and deep talent wise for years. Where have all the kids gone?

Alot of kids want to play for their school.

Works out great for my son. He moved up to the Junior team and starts and getting plenty of playing time against tough competion. It's great watching a 11 year old hold his own against 12 year kids.

Good for your boy! Definitely helps in the development to be in his situation and doing well.

 

Wishing nothing but the best for SK from top to bottom. Lots of great men and women involved with that program over the years. As someone who has been around the NKYFL for many years, just surprised to hear so many kids bypassing SK for middle school.

The Junior Youth team has only lost 2 games in 3 seasons.

But why?

 

Alot of kids want to play for their school.

 

With Middle Schools in NKY most have now 6/7 grades teams along with seperate JV and 8th grade teams I see the Junior and Senior Youth Levels taking a hit every year with less kids, more going to MS teams...Boone County MS also this year now...

 

Why not go play for your middle school early, learn and prepare for the HS level thru your middle school program.

Mainly because the best thing for the development of a young football player isn't to stand on the sidelines...it's to be ON THE FIELD getting reps and applying what you're learning in practice.

 

Look, don't get me wrong, I get wanting to be a part of the culture of the school you will be attending...it's obvious that's a big pull. And that's great for your A/B+ type 6th graders....but not for your B- and below kids who will be spending ALOT of time on scout team in practice (and yeah that can really be brutal) and on the sideline in games.

 

Then think about your MS coaches - and there are several - who make it clear 6th graders (except the studs) won't play. Hell, some coaches even say they don't want them behind closed doors, but then tell those excited/"let's get them in the culture" parents that they love 6th graders and will play when they know it's a lie.

 

The NKYFL is a wonderful league that gives kids an opportunity (see playing time rules) to learn the game the best way they can --- on the field.

Don't get me wrong I like the NKYFL and it is good for youth players. From what I see many middle school programs have about the same numbers the youth programs have extra on the sidelines. I don't see many in NkY having a ton of kids extra. Seems like most teams have just enough to play anymore...
