MLB proposes changes to the strike zone and intentional walk

Featured Replies

True, Runs per game have dropped dramatically over the last 20 years.

I don't think it's any coincidence that it coincides with the uptick in MPH for pitchers.

Crazy thing is that HR's per game are about the same over that time period...I guess faster pitches lead to a more getting mis-hit for HR's

The pitchers are too good and specialized RP at the end of games.

and hitters swing for the fence instead of just trying to put the ball in play. Especially with 2 strikes.

I've always been up for allowing one pitch for the Intentional walk instead of the 4. If your gonna walk a batter, why throw 4 meaningless pitches, instead just throw 1 or let the umpire know what your gonna do and let the batter go to first base...

The pitchers are not too good. The hitters are too bad. Too many Homeruns and Ks and not enough balls in play. No one "hits" with 2 strikes and runners on. It is 3 run homer or a strikeout.

You wanna save time eliminate the 15 warm up pitches between innings or the 15 a guy gets when coming out of the bullpen after he warmed up for 15 minutes already. They should get 5 pitches and lets go. No need for it to take that long in between innings. They will never do that because it would cut down on commercial time.

It is all about the commercial time. They used to have one or two minutes between half innings - now it is 3 I think. Many pitchers stay in the dugout for a little while before heading out to the mound because they don't need 3 minutes to warm up.

This. It used to be if you had 1 or 2 guys on a staff who threw 95mph, you were lucky. Now if your staff has 13 guys, 8-10 throw 95 and a couple can get it up there close to 100. The last 3 innings of the game are featuring set up guys and closers who all throw 95 plus. I almost wonder if they should just move the mound back 6-12 inches...

Yeah I'm not buying that when every single piece of data suggests otherwise. Hitters didn't magically get worse.

Agree

Put a guy on second base to start extra innings. That sounds fun.
