February 3, 20179 yr Here's the early '88 portion Early ‘88 “Starfish” by The Church “Goin’ Off” by Biz Markie “Prison Bound” by Social D “Viva Hate” by Morrissey “Surfer Rosa” by The Pixies “The World’s Greatest Entertainer” by Doug E. Fresh “He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince “Hairway To Steven” by The Butthole Surfers (hope this passes the word filter) “Tracy Chapman” self-titled “Barbed Wire Kisses” by Jesus and Mary Chain “Life’s Too Good” by The Sugarcubes “Joy” by Teddy Pendergrass “Lovesexy” by Prince “By All Means Necessary” by Boogie Down Productions “Strictly Business” by EPMD “Don’t Be Cruel” by Bobby Brown “Long Live The Kane” by Big Daddy Kane “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back” by Public Enemy I will say, unequivocally, that PE's masterpiece is the best of that year, and it's in my all-time top 10 and possibly top 5 greatest rock'n'roll albums ever. Also from that year, but not while I was still in HS, was "Straight Outta Compton" by NWA, which also is another top 10 all-time for me. As Frank sang, "It was a very good year." Had front n' center at Riverbend in Cincy on Aug12th, 1988 for Tracy Chapman on her first release when she warmed up Neil Young. Tickets were $18.50. Tried to get her attention, but she was super shy at this time in her career. Saw Morrissey on 3 occasions. First on July 27th, 1991 at Riverbend where he didn't do an encore and made a nasty remark about Riverbend not letting him conduct the show like he normally did. Because I wanted to know what he was talking about I drove 5 hours two days later to see him in Cleveland where he let audience members one by one on stage with him where they'd hand him flowers and hang on him until they were seen off the stage just as the next fan did the same making him look like a crooner. Saw him again in '97 at the Taft in Cincy where he again made a nasty remark about the city where he said something like "He'd kill himself if he had to live here". His off putting character left a bad taste in my mouth. I dig him about as much as I loathe him. Saw the Church at the 20th Century on the Oakley neighborhood of Cincy. The Pixies are scheduled to play the Madison Theater in Covington on May 6th, and though I had friends who dug them, they just never did it for me. Saw John Mellencamp at Riverbend with Son Volt as the warm up. It was painful because the audience didn't pay any attention to them and I loved Son Volt and was thankful that I had already seen them previously in a proper club show where they were the headliner.
