The Downfall Of Highlands' Football

Featured Replies

Indulge me.

Why else would they have blind faith that Highlands will magically return to dominance with no reasoning?

I don't think that everyone is necessarily saying Highlands is going to definitely be back to repeat exactly what they did over the last 25 years. Will they be able to return as a power in the state? Yes. I think that because they have been a nearly century-long power in Kentucky, and because when they experienced a similar lull in program strength in the late 80's (and I said similar - not exactly the same as this one), they still managed to turn around and become a power again. They have proven that they are able to rebuild.

Now, I answered the question that you asked. Will you answer the one I asked you in post #74?

And have barely a winning season and then a horrible losing season and you think everything is fine?

Because it's very strange that a team would go 25 years just blowing teams out to then losing in the semis to then only winning 3 games.

Something is obviously different.

That doesn't just happen.

They stopped two-platooning, so was that because of a lack of talent of the coaching level or other schools becoming better?

So you're expecting Highlands to rebound in 22 years and don't consider those 22 years a downfall?

Not only was Highlands winning in the past 25 years, but they were blowing teams out.

What will cause this resurgence in 22 years?

History tells us they'll be back again? When has this ever happened in Highlands football history?

You think a team suddenly goes from dominating teams every year in almost every game to a barely winning record and then a losing record and there's nothing wrong?!

I have yet to see one post with any logical argument against me, but rather just blind homerism.

And then none have returned to dominate, so what's your argument?!

Those teams also never had 25 YEARS of just blowing teams out.

Why do you keep saying "and you think there's nothing wrong?" I don't think there is one poster that has said "there is nothing wrong". You're fighting a battle with what you think people are saying...not with what they are actually saying.

I don't live Year by year. You can have up years and down years. Some down years are worse than other down years. But at the end of the day, it's just a down year. To me if you don't win state, you lost just like everyone else. When you lost and how bad you lost is irrelevant. You still lost! So you can try to act like because they had maybe the worse record in HHS history that it's more significant than other down years, but someone that's been around for awhile, it's just a down year. I don't care "how " down they were. And yes, in the 100 years we've been playing football, we've had plenty of down years. And guess what, we'll have them again! And all the haters will come back and tell us again we are done and irrelevant! And the cycle will start all over again...just like it does every other time we've been down.

I agree this coming year will still be a challenge. But then you will see them start creeping again.

Did they have a feeder system back in the late 80s like they do now? Did they reload every year instead of having to rebuild like they are now?

Regardless of being a solid program in the past, they never had anything close to this 25 years of dominance.

So, regardless of being a "power" in the past, will they ever return to dominance?

Will they ever return to being contenders in the state?

Now, I answered the question that you asked. Will you answer the one I asked you in post #74?

My question clarified my answer.

To make it even more clear, though, they're either a Highlands homer or just blinded by past Highlands success, which why else would anyone who wasn't a homer would just blindly have faith that they'll suddenly be great again. You could argue past success, but things have changed.

Also, it's not like they just went from good to average and there's not much work to get back on top because they went from the best-of-the-best to bad.

I say people act like nothing's wrong because everyone seems to believe that there will be some magical fix. There's no state of emergency.

Maybe the administration and coaches see it, though, because why else would Highlands start taking in students from outside their borders again?

And down years in the past 100 years is different than a down year in current times, especially when they had pretty much 25 years of dominance.

Like I said above, it's not just competing for state every year to suddenly losing in the semi-finals, it was a domination for 25 years to having a losing record.

It went from two-platooning to not even having good enough players to put together a winning season, or was it coaching, or was it that other teams are improving, or is it a combination of all three or two of the three.

That was the question of the thread and no one has offered an answer.

If I'm blinded by my homerism, then you're blinded by your hatred.

I answered your question. Talent depth hasn't been there the last two years. Those close to the program know what's in the pipeline and are saying the program will be just fine.

Get over it. Move on. You obviously are butt hurt about something and have an axe to grind.

lol.......... because I asked honest questions about an interesting topic that no one can offer an answer to, I'm butt-hurt?

:thumb:

Your opinion is that the talent wasn't there, but they have over a hundred kids and kids pouring in from this feeder system everyone always raved about, so is it that, or is it the inability to coach them or adapt to their skill set? Does a drop-off in talent explain 25 years of domination suddenly falling to a three-win season? That might explain the opening their enrollment boarders, but was the talent always there when Dale was coaching? Hard to believe that so many players involved could fall-off so quick.

Nobody's butt-hurt. Get over it. Don't get all agitated just because someone asks questions that no one wants to answer.

Everyone was so willing to throw out praise and give reasons for dominance when things were going so well, but it's not allowed to be discussed when the tides turn?

You are absolutely clueless! You really think the decision to close and then re-open enrollment had ANYTHING to do with football??? Whether you want to believe this or not, education decisions are first and foremost at the school. PERIOD! There are times of reasons why they shut it down for a couple years and tons for why they opened it back up. And none of those reasons have anything to do with football!!!lol!! That's hilarious!!

And if you knew what you were talking about, you'd know that they aren't completely open. It's a numbers game in each class and there is stringent criteria on who gets priority based on acedemic performance and attendance records, etc. so no, they aren't completely open and the criteria on whether you get in has nothing to do with whether you play football.

So again, keep reaching and ASSUMING you know what your talking about.

What's funny is you are kinda looking like the democrats. You keep spewing this stuff and I see many posters coming from outside HHS to defend...because they know your rhetoric is plain silly!

But keep spreading the hate! We are used to it! You'll go away like all the others have in the past.

That's why I asked about enrollment, but it is kind of ironic to do it right when the football team starts struggling, no?

I love how you attack that and act like that's the only thing my post consisted of but address nothing about anything else or the football struggles.

See...people do answer your questions but you don't believe them. So this will never end because when we do answer...you basically say "that's not it, here's what's wrong!" So why ask the questions if you know all the answers or aren't going to listen to the answers you are asking for?

It's just a little hate game for you and what it actually is doing is proving the legitimacy and relevance of the program. If they aren't relevant anymore in your opinion, why all the posts about them???? Lol!! Let's discuss a team that has relevancy! We know why you want to talk about them!

If they were wrong, then they would have been corrected by others and not just said "they'll be back again" and addressed my points.

No one has addressed my questions in that post besides for open enrollment.

Let's start slow:

How did it go from blowing teams out all year to a losing record? Talent really fell off that much? It's just a coincidence that it happened almost as soon as Dale left?

That's why I asked about enrollment, but it is kind of ironic to do it right when the football team starts struggling, no?

I'll answer anything you want. I've done it 1000 times on here. You can go back and look at any thread and you'll get the answer to every question you've already asked. They are out there. Every one of them and I've answered them 100 times.

As for enrollment, they really only locked it down complete for about two years. And even in those years, there were limited spots in certain classes in the grade schools based on the size of the classes. So if want to think those couple years of lock down is what contibuted to this, then have at it. But you are mid informed. Especially when we told this forum that traditionally it's been about 5% of the makeup of the varsity squad over the years. So do your Cov Cath math and tell me how many players is that per year when you carry about 100 each year?

You are fooling yourself if you think the closed enrollment period didnt hurt the program a little. Did Highlands make that call based on athletics no of course not, that I agree with you on.

You bullet out the exact questions you want answered and I'll answer everyone of them. (Even though they have all been answered in detail on BGP already)

You are fooling yourself if you think the closed enrollment period didnt hurt the program a little. Did Highlands make that call based on athletics no of course not, that I agree with you on.

I have no idea if orbhow much limiting enrollment hurt them. I can show you years where out of district kids had a huge impact on their success and I can show you years where they had very little impact on the success. And if you want to know, these last two years, we had out of district kids on the team.

Doss just had 3 guys offered by Purdue. I have had some good teams/players in my 25 years as a head coach. I have never had a BCS school roll in and offer 3 players. Highlands is fine. Mortal.... But fine.

Coach Gruneisen use to tell me that things are never as good as they seem or as bad as they seem. I think that applies to Highlands during their runs and during their tough times as well. It applies to all programs. Most of us are just a few plays or players away from being very good or very bad.
