Cardinals Defeat Colonels Behind Williams’ 6 Treys and Philpot’s 20/20 Performance

 

 

If hindsight is 20/20, then so was Will Philpot’s performance last night at Bourbon County. Philpot scored 20 points and had 20 rebounds in the Cardinals’ 40th District win at Bourbon County, 70-51. In addition, PJ Williams led the Cardinals in the first half with 5 treys. He had 6 treys for the game.

The Cardinals led by a score of 17-11 after the first quarter. PJ Williams led the charge with 2 treys in the quarter. The Cardinals continued the assault into the 2nd quarter as GRC outscored Bourbon County, 21-9, to take an 18-point halftime lead at 38-20. PJ Williams had 3 treys in the second quarter to give him 15 points at halftime.

The Cardinals extended the lead to 25 with 1:45 remaining in the third quarter after a Will Philpot layup. This made the score, 51-26. However, the Colonels began a run soon after. A key play was an “and one” by Bourbon County with 4.4 seconds remaining in the third quarter. This gave the Colonels more confidence heading into the fourth quarter. The Cardinals led after 3 quarters, 55-34. Will Philpot led the scoring for the Cardinals with 9 points in the quarter.

The Colonels twice cut the lead to 13 in the final quarter. The second time was with 5:31 remaining in the game at 57-44. The Cardinals held firm and went on a run of 13-7 to close out the game, 70-51. Ryan Cooper, Will Philpot, and Chase Taylor each had 4 points in the quarter.
