Sources: NBA Expansion Looming With Two New Franchises

The front running cities in talks are Seattle and Mexico City, with Louisville still very much in the picture. The former NBA city of Seattle has always been on the NBA’s radar, with Adam Silver determined to fix the error of letting the city lose its franchise.

Does the mess of the Yum Center factor into Louisville having a legit chance?

Could Cincinnati have been in the running if they had a nice area? Instead they got a street car that no one rides.

Cincinnati can't build an arena with public funds without a guarantee from the NBA.

NBA or not something needs to be done with that arena soon.

Louisville should be in contention, but I know it would result in the Louisville Thoroughbreds or something similarly obvious.

I'd love to have a good team to go watch in the Ville.

I'm not convinced Louisville can support an NBA team.

It would be the 8th biggest market in the NBA currently.

Didn't the Louisville mayor do something a few years ago to add areas that were not part of the city in order to make it look bigger?

8th?

Maybe if you include Lexington and Cincinnati as part of the "Louisville market".

If I remember right, Louisville's metro area is slightly smaller than Salt Lake, which is currently the smallest in the league.

That is what I was thinking.

Me either. Obviously Kentucky and Louisville fans are going to go to those games first. Where will fans find the time/money to regularly attend?

I'm not sure what criteria they used. Sounds like some fuzzy math. Sounded high to me as well. I just rolled with it. :lol2:

NBA Expansion Seriously Being Discussed | Heavy.com

Another serious contender is Louisville, Kentucky. Like Mexico City, Louisville has a turn-key venue ready for an NBA team, and the greater Louisville area would automatically become the NBA’s eighth-largest market if it joins the league. The 16WinsaRing.com report also lists Las Vegas and Vancouver as potential destinations, but questions the seriousness of those options.

Seattle topping the list is unreal. They must have a collective battered woman syndrome.

"We're sorry, NBA, we love you and we're sorry we didn't just hand over that $400 million arena you wanted back in 2006. We'll do better this time and give you whatever you want."
