Wayne County 2017

Featured Replies

What does Wayne County need to do to improve in 2017? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The Cardinals lose Dalton Garner #34, one of their best backs, which will hurt for sure and will be the biggest loss. 10 Seniors overall.

However they return Lorenzo Lindsey, Stetson Simpson, German Ruiz all on the offensive side of the ball, along with a ton of other kids that will be another year older and stronger. Aubrey Weaver also returns and is a great player in him self along with LB Clay Shelton.

When I first started watching Wayne County football in the early 2000s they were a team that was lucky to win 5. With Coach Thompson taking over, I can drive through the Wayne County campus at anytime in the fall and you see 100s of kids in youth football starting at a very young age. He understands how this works and next year will continue to show what everyone here knows. They will be as good or better next year. The pipeline is coming and while great players graduate, its next man up and there is no shortage of men for the Cardinals. #AlwaysCompete

The 2016 seniors leave with the most wins in school history. They were part of a state runner up and 2 regional championships teams. So hats of to them.

Like @jessejames said, the Cardinal program has been developed over time to allow a next man up attitude. Wayne' JV has only lost 2 games in the last three years. The transformation of this program has been amazing. The Cardinals now have a 75 - 80 man roster.

Wayne should have 20 seniors next year. A few of which are 4 year starters and the majority 3 year starters. This class was 8th grade D2 state runner up. They will also have the experience of playing in 2 semi finals. The cardinals will return 9 offensive starters and 7 defensive starters from this years semi finals game.

They also have some good young players that played meaningful time in certain packages this past season.

Wayne county 2017 has high expectations. They are hard at work to get bigger, stronger, and faster. This group is dedicated and will take nothing for granted as are all Shawn Thompson teams.

I really like Wayne Co's program, I respect Coach Thompson, and I wish them all the best. They are one of the teams out in the state that I keep an eye on and pull for weekly.

I especially will be cheering for Nate Helton, now that his family has moved to Monticello. I know the Pirates miss Nate and his family.

Jesse James, if you are coming to the Boyle game then you will have to look me up.
