Good grief, Haskins was pushing 70 and passed out on the sidelines during a game in his last season. He knew it was time to step aside. He played the Lone Oak kids because there were more of them and they were better. Lone Oak went to the state finals twice in the previous 8-9 years and had an established program. Not so much at Heath and Reidland. Don't you think talent at the respective schools may have had something to do with that?

Yes I do but I heard bickering from mostly the Heath crowd who were not happy.

While I'm sure there is no bickering at all at Mayfield, what you described goes on at virtually every school where there are boosters/parents. And I'm pretty sure you know that.

I agree, we likely don't have as much of it here

And please spare me the veiled "recruiting" accusations. I've heard the same kind of things about Mayfield for 50 years. I'm sure you have to. Pot meet kettle.

Not meant to be taken as any sort of violations. While certainly there was some help from these kids I think they were all there legit. What I was trying to say was that if the program slips with a poor new hire then those kids stop coming. Yes we have had a few come that wanted to be a part of the Cards football program and we have lost some who wanted to go elsewhere

Nobody is saying they expect McCracken to compete for the 6A title year in and year out. it's different in 6A that in 2A. Winning state should be and is a GOAL for any school. The fans, boosters, students, et al, understand that. And I think you do too.

I agree 6A football is big boy football and a different animal than 2A. Where we disagree is that the fans, boosters, students, ect., thinking that way. I think a large number of them are expecting to be the king of the mountain and while that may not mean a state title it would mean being kings of WKY football and so far that has not happened not do I think it will consistently but I do think it has the possibility to happen. A home run hire will be needed to separate from the likes of Mayfield and others. The desire for Haskins to be gone by a segment of the fan base despite doing a great job getting the program off the ground made me think this will be a tough place to keep the fans happy due to unrealistic expectations. Hire #2 was confusing given the guy was a known jumper and low and behold he has jumped and did so without any visible sign of having improved the program. I know the reasons stated but lets not forget he took a job last year before backing out.

A stable hire is needed but to think this is the best or even close to the best job around is all in ones own perspective. I see a job with fans that will be difficult to please because there will be a dead end in the playoffs every year in the first or second round due to the Louisville schools. Nobody's fault but it is what it is. A wrong hire and average could become the norm, especially with the strong baseball and basketball program.

All that said, my goal was only to get some of you all talking about who they Mustangs are looking at. I named a couple guys that are being mentioned and hope that my post would bring some out to give us a take on what you all are hearing. I apologize for being provocative

Early on I had heard a T assistant had either applied or inquired but have not heard anything recent.

I heard that as well, but was told no one from T has applied.

I think there has been a lot of McCracken going after some of these people instead of the other way around. One reason I say that is b/c I know of one that they called within a couple of days within this thing being open, and they respectfully declined.

Somebody made the comment earlier about it being a place you can come to and win 8-10 games on the regular with little to no real pressure of winning a region title, let alone a state title. That would be ideal for a lot of people. There is a whole lot to be said for that.

However, the coaches they are targeting are already at places that not only win, but have won it all or have a legit chance of doing that on a yearly basis.

Heard Tyler Turner has been offered by the Mustangs, can anyone confirm?

Liberty Tech HS

(Not even going to act like I knew.....my friend Google)

Who is he and where is he from?

Played at nearby Obion Central. He's young. He's only been the coach at Liberty Tech for 2 season. If he comes here, hope he stays for a while.

Which is where Shawn Jackson was the head coach for a few years....ironic (very well might have no connection at all, but still).

I assume if he's been offered, he applied so I'd assume he'd take the job?

You don't really know until you get in there and are able to check things out for yourself to see. Sometimes that means a yes, sometimes a no.

They need to make a local hire that know something about football in this area that will stay and build this program.

Well boys the job is turning out to be harder to fill than some thought. Turner has rejected it. We are back at square 1

Guess it was a no.
