Now yes there are some who don't but to say almost always is liking saying "NO ONE" knows basketball. Let me guess if you yell it it's the truth?

You won't hear me yell them; especially "over the back". Truth.

Over the back stopped being a rule like 20 years. You never see officials say over the back. The call does not exist. I think that's what he was referring to

It is a foul if you make contact while behind the other player, just not called over the back anymore. I'll still refer to that foul by that name. Is reaching actually called reaching by rule book standards? If you reach for the ball and don't make contact is it a foul? What is the official term for a steps, walking or traveling violation?

People hate when fans yell at a ref and want to get hung up semantics.

So people hate it when fans yell at a ref ? Or the people sitting next to the people yelling at the ref hate getting hung up on semantics ?

…there are some ….

Threads like these are hilarious to me. Everyone wants to complain about the officials when, in most cases, those same people don't even know the rules.

Whenever I hear someone yell "over the back", I know I'm sitting next to someone who hasn't a clue.

Sorry...disagree. I'm old School and very aware there is no "over the back" call any more, however old habits are hard to break. A "push in the back" as it is likely now called is still "over the back for some who have been involved many years....yes semantics, but it's a stretch to say that someone who yells over the back don't know the rules

Remember that the logic used for the throw-in (i.e. the count ends at release) does not apply to the issue of the 10-second rule. The 10-second count does not end until the ball touches either the floor in the front court or touches a player who is in the front couret. So a pass released at 9 that travels a long way but doesn't touch before 10 is a violation.

In the LIT in 1968 at Freedom Hall, CovCath was playing Louisville Central and Central was losing by a couple. Each time the Yellow Jackets put the ball in bounds after a CovCath score they would roll it up the court and the stripe would still keep counting as you could see him moving his arm in a counting motion. He never stopped the count until a Central player touched the ball. Finally in about the third or fourth time Central was rolling the ball up the court, the Stripe blew his whistle and awarded the ball to CovCath saying that Central didn't get the ball into play in the allotted time. BTW Jim Cooper hit 17 straight free throws in that game and it was the record at CovCath until Nick Ruthsatz hit 19 in a game in his senior year!

On an inbounds play after a basket the player has 5 seconds to inbound the ball. If another player steps out of bounds and the inbounding player passes the ball to him and then he becomes the inbounder, does the 5 second count start again or is the count just continued? I think I know the answer but am curious.

The team has a total of 5 seconds - not 5 seconds per player.

Note: This strategy can only be used after a made basket or FT.

You may miss this point....it's not about semantics, it's about the use of that phrase when it doesn't exist as an action of the court....it's only foul if there is a push....scrambles on rebounds do not necessarily meet the standard.
