Harlan County wins in dramatic fashion against Cordia 58-57 on a half court NBN shot by Cameron Carmical in the WYMT Mountain Classic to remain unbeaten with a record of 16-0.

 

Cordia had just gone ahead 57-55 leaving 1 second remaining on the clock. An inbound pass and a quick half court shot and the Harlan County Black Bears win an unbelievable thriller.

Though the official winner of this game is Harlan County, there seems to be a bit of a scandal surrounding the last second shot. I've yet to see the video (hopefully I will locate it) but apparently those who have say that it was obviously too late to be a buzzer beater.

 

Here is an account of the last seconds of the game from someone who was in attendance.

 

 

"Cordia shot with 1.6 seconds on the clock and the ball rolled around the rim almost 3 times then went in and the time ran out. The one red was already signaling for a time out while the ball was still on the rim and nobody can even call a time out until the ball clears the net. There should have been .2 on the clock and the same ref that signaled the time out ran over and told the time keeper to put 1.1 seconds on the clock. That's not even the bad part. When Harlan county brought the ball in he took 2 dribbles then a step then shot the ball and it was obvious to everybody in the gym that the ball was still on his hand except the same referee and he counted the basket".

WYMT has sent the highlight to ESPN for top plays. Wonder if it makes it tonight? ESPN requested it and you can see video and request on Jamie McCracken's twitter if interested.

Sounds like the clock operator may be equally as responsible for the shot counting as the ref.

I was there and everybody in the whole gym except one referee knew that the final shot was no good. and they did have access to replay and didn't use it.and you cant really blame the clock operator because they tell us as refs that with 1 second lrft it has to be a quick 1 dribble then a quick release so as soon as he caught the ball with his back to his own goal and then pivoted and took his first dribble then immediately the refs should have started waving the shot off
