Newport 65 Holmes 57

Should be back after this week. And my guess is Holmes beats Conner and Newport with him playing.

Most likely

I'm shocked that is your guess...

And, Newport didn't have Maguire either.

Games are played for a reason, and teams have 12 players for a reason. Holmes still had their 3 best players on the floor and lost.

It was a tale of 2 halves, and Newport won the half that mattered, by 18 points.

No Holmes didn't have there 3 best players. Greene is probably there best player!

Newport probably didn't have their secret weapon on the floor either.........Wiggins.

Greene had 17 rbs in Holmes' win over Newport. If you really think he doesn't impact this game, you're sadly mistaken. Holmes is no doubt a different team with him on the floor.

I could personally care less who won or lost either game as I have a lot of respect for both coaches and programs. Just an opinion. Doesn't make it right or wrong.

Yes. He had 17 rebounds. Played well. Also had 6 points. This doesn't automatically mean he has 17 rebounds again. What about Newport sophomore Maguire? He had 10/4 in first game, he doesn't add to Newport game?

Either way, with/without Greene/Maguire this matchup would be a battle. Call it a push with/without both. Newport won this one. Doesn't take anything away from Holmes.

And, if you saw the game, Holmes replacements for Green were formidable. They battled and played hard.

I would disagree that Greene is Holmes best player. I know he's good And averages 10/8 which is solid, but Hollis and Commodore make that team go. And, Miller is a really nice PG.

Not at all taking sides in this discussion, but would like to toss Englemon's name in the mix for Holmes' solid contributers. What a nice and smooth mature reliable player he has turned out to be.

I agree. He seems to take what is given to him. He can hit the 3 andwill attack the middle. Strong kid. Plays his role well.

Nope, I wouldn't expect him back anytime soon

Heard he'll be back Tuesday against Scott

When was the last time Newport beat Holmes prior to this? Has it been awhile?

March 7, 2010 - 9th Region Final - 60-34

Newport beat Holmes, at Holmes last season. Kedan Davis and Ethan Snapp both had big games.

Good catch... I should have remembered because I was there. :banghead:

Holmes is not the perennial powerhouse anymore. They have had some exceptional players who have really raised the program to a different level over the past 10 yrs with Pittman, Johnson's, Beetle, etc Even though they have some nice talent this year I don't see any D-1 talent coming up in the program anytime soon. Maybe @Walter can expound on that though.
