School Transfer

Mid season transfers! Can anyone tell me if a player can transfer in mid-season and still be eligible to play. What are the rules. Help!!!

If there is a bona fide change of residence (as defined by the KHSAA bylaws) and they meet all the other qualifications of a legitimate transfer, yes they can play.

They have to apply for a waiver from the KHSAA and it is up to their discretion whether or not the kid can play this season or set out a year.

They once they transfer, they have to get 10 full practices in before they are eligible.

Thanks for your quick reply. This kid goes to a city school that that is in the same county as he lives. His residence would not change. Thanks again.

Under that scenario, he wouldn't be eligible this year, ff.

On the KHSAA website, you can read all the bylaws. The one that deals with this is Bylaw 6 - Transfer Rule.

I know of at least two exceptions to that rule that transferred(after playing at another school within the same season) without a change of address and were playing at their new school after 2-3 weeks.

I'm not certain if they claimed a change of address or not though.

The KHSAA did hear about it and it was perfectly legal.:p

Really ??

Can you tell us what the special circumstances were that allowed approval (without giving away who it involves) ?

He wouldn't be eligible next year either. He would have to sit out a season not counting the current one. Wouldn't he?

Then somebody lied.

Both situations that I am talking about happened a few years ago with both now out of high school. It was pretty common knowledge in this area.

What were the circumstances?
