Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

Featured Replies

I was flipping channels last night and for some reason stopped on this show. I ended up watching 3 episodes.

I admit I know nothing about this religion other than John Travolta and Tom Cruise are members. Some of the stuff they're talking about seems insane.

Anyone else watch it?

It is insane. More religious nonsense.

I was told by someone that supposedly knew about Scientology that the best place to see what they are about and what they believe is to watch the South Park Episode on Scientology. He said South Park actually nailed it.

Scientology seems like a rather odd cult. I'm betting they are not liking the exposure this show is giving them.

I'm surprised Leah Remini isn't dead.

I was thinking the same thing when I was watching an episode of the show.

My thought as well after watching a couple episodes.

There was huge push back at the time...I think it took a while before it was shown a second time. If you've never watched it, I'm pretty sure you would enjoy that episode.

Watched several of these yesterday. They're all a bunch of nut balls. It's also interesting that they don't talk about what Scienctology actually is or teaches. If the South Park episode is remotely accurate then WOW.

They're the typical mind control cult that have built in mechanisms to shut their members off from the outside world. The Moonies, Heaven's Gate, and others did the same, only on a smaller scale. What's puzzling is how intelligent people such as Tom Cruise and John Travolta, can be pulled into something like this. But then again, most of the Heaven's Gate members who committed suicide in their mansion in California were college educated or successful in in their careers. I suppose with the right kinds of methods and the right leaders that the mind can be manipulated to the extreme.

Are we sure this is true?

The Moonies.. I forgot about them! I spent a good portion of my early childhood terrified of Moonies....irrataionally, as it turns out. Never actually met one, just heard my mom threaten to send us to them when we children misbehaved.

What seems strange is even the ones that have "escaped" seem to still believe the teachings. They just left more so because of the what they are treated. In one episode Leah brought in the producer to try and explain what Scientology was but she never really did. She explained the levels and bridge to freedom crap but never said anything about the lunacy of the core beliefs. I think she still believes the garbage but just doesn't like the way the church treats people.
