I suggest keep the Aug 18th starting date and play the season and playoff straight trough.

Agree 100%. Doing away with bye-week and playing straight through makes Championship games over Thanksgiving like old days and eliminates the crazy flex scheduling conflict at BG.

As long as there is 6 classes and possible 15 week season. Keep the bye

Why? Any thoughts about point suggested in post#2?

This will never happen and most don't agree with me anyway but I say 4 classes and limit teams that make it in playoffs; then allow class A champ to play class AA champ and 3A champ to play 4A champ.

Again, won't happen but that's my wish.

Keep the Bye - it's a long grind of a season for these guys who most begin winter training in about 2 weeks. A week off is mostly good to regroup.

BUT, I would get rid of Week 1 of the Playoffs. Teams that have no wins or 1 or 2 wins should not get in the playoffs. Period.

To completely get rid of a week of the playoffs all 3rd place teams in the district would also have to be left out.

I'd just prefer to cut the season to 10 weeks with teams having an option of 9 games with a bye or 10 games and no bye. That would pull the finals back to Thanksgiving weekend, where they should be.

Add in an extra scrimmage if you cut the bye week.

As a matter of fact add an extra scrimmage for everyone anyway. Some get 2 scrimmages and a bye, while some get 1 scrimmage and a bye.

Every school in the state has a fall break. Most work the bye week around fall break.

Schools currently have the option of two scrimmage games and no bye week or one scrimmage game and one bye week. Honestly, under the current format, the 1A and 6A schools are playing an entire season of scrimmages prior to the playoffs. This is essentially true for a majority of schools in the other classes who only have to beat out 1 or 2 teams from their district to make the tournament, and who can probably get past those 1 or 2 teams fairly easily. With this in mind, I really wouldn't like to see a mandatory second scrimmage while not allowing a bye week for teams to allow 15 to 18 year old bodies to heal up from what could be a stretch of 17 straight weeks of football games (2 scrimmages, 10 regular season, 5 playoffs).

It would be nice, but impossible, if the KyGenAssembly mandated the Fall break window, and KHSAA mandated the bye for ALL schools that week.
