November 6, 20169 yr While we were out and about today, we stopped at Menards. Of course, you'd have to be blind to miss the Christmas trees they have on display. My wife is not blind, and has now decided that we need a new tree. We were looking at several of the prelit varieties they had, but neither of us knew much about them. The first question we both had was...what happens when a bulb burns out? Do you lose the entire section? The entire tree? Does nothing happen? Is it worth having LED lights instead of the regular incandescent? I do like the ability to change from a pure white light look, to multi-colored lights, at the push of a button. I know we've got several out there that have the prelit Christmas trees...so, what's your experience and advice?

The last one (before the one we bought last year) lasted the longest at 3 years. However, I'd pay for one each and every year to avoid stringing lights on a 10ft tree. Worst part of the holiday for me. Hated it. Now, assemble and plug in. Boom. As for the model/make. No clue. Came from Lowes and she liked it and I put it in the truck.
November 6, 20169 yr I like the LED tree we got a couple of years ago over the old style lights. I'm with Doc, lights are a pain in the butt as is storing the dang tree after Christmas. I've tried for years to talk the wife into leaving the tree up year round and just decorating it for the next holiday...Valentines, Easter, Memorial Day/4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween and back to Christmas.

I used to leave a tree up year 'round in my classroom. We called it the "Chemis-tree" and decorated it for each holiday. We switched lights out for each holiday.

I like that...one of my past doctors keeps one up year round also. I think it opens you up to a lot of creative thought!

November 7, 20169 yr Absolutely prelit is the way to go. I'm assuming the more expensive the tree the better the quality of lights. When we bought it the guy at the store told us that bulbs could go out and not affect the others. We have a 12' tree with 2500 lights, so figuring that out would be impossible. Personally I like the small all clear twinkle lights. To my eyes, LEDs seem to have a purplish tint, but that may be better now.
November 7, 20169 yr Boy, there's nothing like a real tree strung with those large screw-in bulbs from the 50s/60s! Those bad boys would get so warm they'd cook the needles and make the room smell like a pine forest!! We've never had a pre-lit tree. We just bought some new style LEDs that are supposed to be virtually tangle proof. I'll let you guys know how it goes here a a couple of weeks.
