Bishop Brossart 45 Pendleton County 7

Featured Replies

Murphy's Law was in full effect Friday night at Bob Miller Stadium, where the Brossart Mustangs were slated to host the Pendleton County Wildcats for the fist time after playing the Cats for the past five years at Sharp Middle School

However, before the captains could meet for the coin flip, broken glass was discovered on the playing surface and it was determined that the game would not be played at Bob Miller Stadium. To further complicate matters, cell phone service was disrupted, as the administrators tried to arrange for an alternate site. At about 8:15pm, 45 minutes past scheduled post time, it was announced that the game would be contested at Sharp Middle School, causing the fans in attendance to pack up and move "like a band of gypsies moving down the highway" to Sharp where the game finally got underway at 9:15pm.

Chase Keller set a single season touchdown pass record, with 20, at the 7:55 mark of the first period when he connected with his favorite target Bryce Donnelly on a 60 yard connection, giving the Mustangs a 6-0 lead. The touchdown reception was the 14th of the season for Donnelly, and when Jake Sendlebach split the uprights for the first of six PAT successes, the Mustangs led 7-0.

The duo gave the fans an instant replay with :09 remaining in the first quarter - Keller to Donnelly - on a 35 yard pass play, making the advantage 14-0 when Sendlebach worked his magic.

The Mustangs put the game away in the second quarter.

Chase Keller raced 74 yards for a touchdown on a keeper at 7:28

Jake Sendleback scored a 69yard open field breakaway TD at 3:12

and Sophomore Brian Duffy recovered a Wildcats fumble in the endzone for our third score of the stanza, making it 35-0, but we weren't done yet. Sendlebach, who had five successful PATs on the night, tacked on a 32 yard field goal, sending the game to a running clock for the second half.

At the onset of the second half Kory Quitter picked up a Pendleton County fumble and rambled into the endzone for a touchdown, making it 45-0 after three complete, sending the Mustang ones to the sidelines for the duration of the contest.

Pendleton County scored on the Mustang 2s with only 16 seconds remaining in their season, making the final score 45-7.

The Mustangs, who complete regular season play at 8-2, claimed the "Battle of US27" for the second straight year, and will head to Raceland next Friday night for a post-season playoff engagement with the highly regarded Rams.

Pendleton County drops the curtain on a 2-8 campaign, graduating six seniors.

Broken glass??????

Apparently some dirt was brought in to fix spots in the field and had glass in it.

The most remarkable thing is how close to game time it was discovered. Glad it wasn't during the game!

lmao at the "band of gypsies moving down the highway".

Excellent description @Mustang.

from what i heard, both teams got most of the notable debris off the field, but from the sidelines you could see the shine from some of the small pieces of glass.

Brossart Senior night festivities had concluded, the National Anthem sung, and the captains were ready to head to the middle of the field when things were put on hold.
