Yeah it was. Made the three hour drive down to watch and it certainly lived up to the billing.

Hats off to Belfry on the win. The only two players that I know of were out for this one from JC was starting CB Linzie Goble and starting C Brady Taylor. JC had numerous chances to take control of the game but Belfry rose to the occasion and made big play after big play. Preece is going to be a dandy QB because I'm not sure many freshmen would be able to keep their composure in a game of this magnitude and battle back the way he did. Tonight as a player I believe he grew leaps and bounds against that massive Belfry defense. One thing that I think most people are thankful for is that I don't think anyone suffered any significant injuries. Glad to see Horton was OK after his injury on the sideline and the other lineman that was able to get up and return. Also was able to talk to Cole after the game and what a fine young man he is. Best of luck to him and the Pirates the rest of the way.

Great game to watch. Belfry bent but did not break when JC threatened. 4 trips inside the red zone, 3 or which were 1st and goals and JC only comes away with 3 points. Hats off the Pirates for making the stops when needed. Great game to watch in front of a great crowd. Was fun to see both teams playing so hard. Some major hits tonight both ways and I expect lots of ice baths. I also expect both teams to make runs to the state finals.

Just got home, heck of a ball game. JC had opportunity after opportunity, but Belfry held strong and kept them out of the endzone. I believe I heard on the radio that JC actually outgained Belfry roughly 415-150 tonight in yardage. However, the three time defending champions found a way to win. A fumble recovery for a TD and then the opening KO in the 2nd half for a TD turned out to be the determining factor for the Pirates. Congratulations to both teams on a great game and, as others have stated it, more importantly injury free from the contest. Best of luck to both Belfry and JC in the playoffs, both VERY good teams.

Fun game to watch. It was one of those games where both teams will walk away from it a better team, no matter who won. I thought both teams laid it all on the line an Belfry made a few plays that mattered when they had to. It could have easily went the other way. It was good to see most of Belfry's players who had missed a few games recently back in uniform and playing. Like ATL said above, it will be good to see Jordan Scott back as well. Belfry will need to be firing on all cylinders by the 3rd week against Russell

 

Johnson Central defended the Pirates very well and they are quick on defense. I like playing at JC and most all their fans are knowledgeable and gracious. Now it's time to get ready for the 2nd season

Watching the replay:

- On the play that Jackson was stripped he was very close to being down..very close and in fact I think the safer call would have been to rule him down. Still a great effort by Hunter though.

 

- The facemask that caused the controversy was a bad call. I think they may have threw the flag because someone caught his ear hole but there was no facemask whatsoever. The refs signaled 4th Down on the field but the P.A. announced First Down. That was on Matney for not seeing the official signal 4th Down.

 

- It did not end up being a key call, but the personal foul for the late hit on Belfry OOB before one of JC's INT's was a pretty bad call. They basically just ran into each other and bumped. In a game like that 15 yard penalties potentially could be huge and that should have been a no call and a lecture.

 

- That personal foul call for spearing was indeed an atrocious call like the Belfry radio crew reacted. HAHA... in fact it may have been one of the worst missed calls for spearing I have ever seen. Hall put a perfect form tackle and on the replay I am not sure even his helmet made contact whatsoever.

 

- The Woolum interception in the endzone was inconclusive, but my goodness what a play. The view wasn't great but it was super close and from I could see that actually looked to be the correct call as he got one foot down on an unbelieavble effort. Freshman QB should never have made that throw though..should have either been a throw away or him tucking it for the LOS or a yard or two game.

Hook and ladder was very close to being a Belfry TD and I am not sure if he was down or not..I think calling him down was the right call but it was super close and Cook had a TD had they said he was not down.

 

I really like the Frisby kid for JC. He adds a new dimension to their Offense and I think that kid can play college ball somewhere as TE.

 

I don't know where that #3 on JC's Defense came from but he is a solid looking DE. He played a very good game. Blanton was everywhere on Defense as well and was the main man shutting down Belfry's option game. He does not get the recognition he deserves. Blanton is a superstar.

Just saw another much better view of the Hook and Ladder and the receiver was 100% down as called on the field. Give the refs credit when it is due... saw another view of the jackson strip and it did not help any

EKB replay on their Armchair Quarterback show had a good view of the strip. They mistakenly refer to that play as the facemask play, but they show it in slow motion and it is a much better view. Highlights start about the 1:00 mark and that play is just after the 1:30 mark.

I'm not sure, but they were giving penalties out like candy. Also it seems to me that they were more focused on what the FS players were doing (which wasn't much of anything) rather then the Rville players. One Rville actually kicked one of our players and got no penalty and FS did.
