October 27, 20169 yr Anyone been to Williamsburg, VA lately? I've got about 1.5 days of free time while there in a couple weeks, so I'm looking for the must see places that are family friendly. There seems to be a ton of things to do around the area, but we just don't have a ton of time to do it.
October 27, 20169 yr First of all, I think it is patently un-American, and perhaps felonious, to ever say W'burg's name without "historic" in front of it. Even in writing. So I'll thank you very much to ask for recommendations for "Historic Williamsburg". Thank you kind sir.
October 27, 20169 yr I've heard you should definitely make time either on the way out there or on the way back to check out Foamhenge.
October 28, 20169 yr Maybe check out Monticello in Charlottesville? Yes. Charlottesville is a very pretty town. The UVa campus is something to behold.
October 28, 20169 yr Go to Norfolk and tour the Naval Base. Historic Williamsburg is cool for a few hours. I wouldn't spend the entire day. A slew of good family restaurants. For future reference if you have more time down the road. We even traveled to Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks and spent an afternoon on the beach. I'm not a VA Beach fan but it's in close proximity as well. Have fun and safe travels...

October 28, 20169 yr Had dinner one night at the King's Arms Tavern in the heart of the old part of town on Duke of Gloucester Street. It was expensive, to be sure, and make sure you book ahead of time, but get the Hunter's Game Pie... it was unreal. Apart from that, there's some neat stuff to see all over the old part of the town and the University of William and Mary is right there next to the historic section. I remember enjoying the tour of the old Governor's mansion in particular.
October 28, 20169 yr But it's OK to abbreviate it??? I had to abbreviate it since I wasn't dropping "historic" in there yet, and didn't want to set off the NSA inspectors.

I'll make note to refer to it as Historic Williamsburg, or maybe even Colonial Williamsburg, in the future. I'll also report back if the fields are too rubbered for you. :thumb:

October 29, 20169 yr I've twice been to the the city. . Old Williamsburg is a must. Also Jamestown and Yorktown are nearby and if you like history are both worth the time.
