West Jessamine 2 Boyle County 0 (12th Region Championship)

Featured Replies

Anyone know any details about what happened at the end of the West Jessamine / Boyle Co. Game? According to a video that doesn't show much, both coaches yell at each other and teams don't shake hands. Hard to make out what was being yelled or what happened to lead up to that meltdown.

I think those coaches really dislike each other. The videos were something else.

The article in the paper said they hadn't played a regular season game in years. For two schools so close to each other to both have great programs and not play says a good deal about the relationship.

Was there and can tell you what happened. To give a little background Boyle and West have developed an intense rivalry but more from Boyle's side (they hate West) because it has been one sided for the past 10 years with West dominating. Boyle finally broke through last year and beat West for the region for the first time so this years battle was built up as big as ever with Boyle ranked in top 5 and West coming on strong in Anna Lee and Eva Mitchells last go round. The game was high level and and intense (physical but not dirty with most big calls going Boyle's way). West got two second half goals and won and lined up to shake hands and Boyle's coach refused to let his girls shake. Low class move by Boyle's coach (not his girls - they played their hearts out). What you saw on the video was what happened after the Boyle coach refused to shake hands.

And to follow up . . . they HAD played regularly in the regular season every year because they are regional competitors and were always on each others schedule but Boyle decided they didn't want to play West this year so they didn't.

This isn't entirely accurate according to what I was told. Just because you were there doesn't mean you know the whole story. I'll also add that your bias is too clear to be taken as the truth.

I was told a different story as well.

Well, what's the different story?

If you heard it from a Boyle Co. parent, person at the game, etc., could they not have a bias also?

I am 100% West bias and also 100% accurate in what happened. Everybody can have a "rest of the story" tale but there is no doubt the Boyle coach refused to allow his team to shake after the game. Ask the Herald reporter if you want confirmation of that.

The further background to this is what happened last year as well. After Boyle won, West lined up then this time in defeat and waited for Boyle to finish their celebration on the field complete with pre made T-Shirts etc ignoring the fact West was waiting in line to shake hands.

Thats why you hear Coach Wright yelling at the end, "you did this last year and you did it this year . . . "

Spin it how you want . . . the folks who were there both times know how it went down. The Boyle coach was out of line and looked bad both times.

Did Coach Wright scream at an injured player and tell her to get up because there's no crying in soccer? I'm just curious.

I was told the girls from Boyle County were lining up to shake hands when the coaches started jawing back and forth. No one knows what was said and the way I understand it the West Jessamine coach that said something first and then the jawing started. They pretty much said it was an intense scene with a lot of emotion involved. They said the video that is making the rounds does not show how the whole situation went down. They said the video picks up halfway through the incident.

The only spin you'll get from me is that if Coach Deem ordered his kids not to shake hands then I am sure he had a really good reason.

Don't laugh at injured players. That's a no no

So what you heard is exactly the opposite of what the other poster said.

IMHO somewhere in the middle lies the truth.

Also, IMHO, there is never a reason to teach our children to be unsportsmanlike. You win with dignity and you lose with dignity.
