No, and I don't need to. All I have to do is look up his highlights. He runs straight up and down. He has quick hips, but doesn't accelerate out of his cuts. All his big runs are open lanes going play side and making a guy miss. No cut backs to speak of, even at the second level (lacks vision). He's very fast. But he's also racking up numbers against some really bad teams. For a guy his size I didn't see a lot of broken tackles either. He's a starting linebacker at the 6A level, but I don't see him starting for Cooper, Conner, or Ryle. Plus, he has no catches that I saw in the games I watched (I just checked him out against Beechwood, NCC, and Bethlehem). He's got the makings of a good college player on D, and he's a good running back, but he's not close to being the best in NKY.

 

This is a pretty good assessment of Barnes.

 

If we are talking about college prospects, Barnes is definitely at the top. However, I expect him to play defense not running back at Toledo.

 

When I am talking about the best running back in Northern Kentucky I am talking about what I am seeing the players doing this season. I am not looking at their potential in college.

NCC would not have shut-out Bo Jackson or Eric Dickerson. Wow I guess they are the 85 bears. Lol they are good players but Tri-state. They are average players at best in the GCL.

Meadrables don't make you a good running back. For example, how would you measure a running backs vision? You can't. You either have it or you don't.

Could they live in Cincinnati and play at Holy Cross? I know Ohio has a rule against out of state students. Does KY have that rule also?

Measuarables dont make you the best runningback in tri-state but here are some of the best in the tri-state. Colrain Monalo is 5'10 215, Sycamore Ra von 6'0 205, Hamilton Jackson 5'11 205. All these boys play against elite competition.

NKY top running backs???

Monalo Caldwell and Abernathy were in the same backfield for 4 years. They played on one of the most talented football teams that I've ever seen. They played in the most talented league I've ever seen. The kids listed below played on the same pee-wee team called the Hilltop Hawks.

Barnes played for the Mt. Airy Chargers. They weren't that good be he was a monster back then on those teams.

I don't know Abernathy or Barnes at all. I have seen them play once and thought they were great in that game (granted it was against a week opponent). Just wondering, @lamontab, if they are THAT good why did they go to Holy Cross as opposed to one of the GCL or GMC schools where they would get more exposure? BTW this is not a criticism whatsoever, I was just wondering what brought them to the good side of the river.

That's an easy one, because the High School experience is more important than the High School football experience. Holy Cross came highly recommended from very close friends. Abernathy has been at HC since the 6th grade while he still played football in Cincy. Williams & Barnes came to Holy Cross after it was recommended by Abernathy. They played on the same AAU bball team.
