Ranking Ryle low because they are young would be a mistake.

Scherr may even be the best player in the region, and Schwartz close behind. But both lack varsity experience where they are relied upon. Their experience has been as helpers to the main players for Ryle. It makes sense that they would struggle finding their way being the lead players. And figuring that out as really young players too. I see them as very up and down. But not consistent enough to contend for the region this year. Also they are the opposite of Conner and lack depth in a big way.

If I offended you I apologize. I think very highly of Conner this year. They may not have a star player but they have a lot of depth IMO. In girls basketball that is huge. When your 9/10th girl is a summer AAU playing girl it will make a difference. Conner will surely rely on its main players, Burcham, Jordan, Hurst and Duncan to do the heavy lifting. Those four are all excellent players. Add in several good seniors with an incredibly strong freshman and sophomore class (even with Hurst and Jordan playing JV ball this class was the best 8th grade group), this team is poised to win games. They have Duncan and the freshman Drummonds to play big inside. Great guards and forwards. Tons of depth. Conner is just solid everywhere that's why I see them competing for the region title. Unfortunately girls basketball does not get the turnout the boys do, so having significant depth is a big factor IMO.

Hold on now!!! HHS beat them in the 8th grade championship by 20. Without Barth playing. In 6th and 7th, Conner beat HHS in the championship in close games when Conner had all their players in that grade. But HHS never had Barth. She never played a MS game.

I'm glad Baugh is playing. Great kid and athlete.

Scoring won't be a concern with Martin gone and defenses focusing on the rest of the team instead of stopping Martin? Game plans will be much different against ND this year. Not sure that is a non-issue. But I'll go with it.

And yes, new coach's can be said for half the region, but not for teams that expect to contend for the region.

I'm not trying to tear down ND at all. Again, I like and respect their program. I just think they have some open questions to answer before I would put them in front of some others. Baugh playing is a good start!

I also think many teams have some open questions this year. But ND keeps coming up as a team folks think should be listed higher and I'm curious as to why?

IMO I have ND in the top five because I think they bring good scoring basketball players combined with great athletes. Hagen and Baugh combined with all the other girls (Teirney, Hoppius, etc) will make for a strong group. They have strong freshman players coming in also Hagen and Hellman. Great new coach, new philosophies, momentum for the program. IMO they will be a good team. Too athletic to not be

Haha, sorry. You are correct I think. All those years seem to flow together. I know the grade below them beat everyone too. Still, the sophomore class at Conner is loaded. Maybe not as loaded as Highlands though ;)

I hope you're right and it all comes together for them. I like it when they are good. Now that I know Baugh is playing for sure, they really helps.

Last thought, Boone hasn't been talked about much. I think they will be tougher than people think. If Beal is there and playing basketball she will fit right into a good group of girls. Anderson is a fierce competitor. And they have Gieske at guard also who can play. They also have a new coach who I hear is really good, and will have some real fight in them. Not sure they're ready to compete for the region title but they will surprise teams and be competitive.

LOL, They definitely have two outstanding classes in a row. Thats actually what I think their advantage will be in a year or two. I don't think anyone in NKY has back to back classes that good!

I am still a little hesitant about this year. I think talent is there, but they are still young and will lose some game because of inexperience. And the season is long and those girl's bodies are not made to take a beating over time yet. Its a tough season banging against girls that are bigger than you. So the wear and tear of the season is one other thing I'm curious to watch play out

When we name name Hurst, Jordan, Burcham as the stars for Conner (all Soph) and we rank them second, why do we say "Youth" will hold Ryle back when their stars are Schwartz, McGregor, Scherr and Douthitt. (I think 3 sophs and an outstanding freshman)?

I don't want that to get taken the wrong way. I love the Conner girls and Coach Stamm. I just discuss things I think about.

Beal being there definitely makes them a team to keep an eye on.

Ryle very well could have a good year and be competitive with top teams. But as I mentioned in another post the Conner girls were relied upon last year as main players and needed to do the heavy lifting for the team. They have a year of that under their belts and I think that makes a difference. Scherr and Schwartz have not been in those roles yet. Also, I would not put Douthit or McGregor into the same category yet. Douthit was only a bench player for Dixie last year and they were below average. McGregor has taken a lot of time off of basketball, and although as athletic as any girl in the region, there is still a lot to be proven there.

Seriously???? Conners top 3 were gone from that 8th grade team and they still made it to the championship! C'mon your better than that.

I was just responding to the "they won the 8th grade without out them" comment. No they didn't! They were beat in the finals by 20. Did I say anything that was wrong?? I know who was missing and so did he and it was stated in the thread. Anyone reading it could figure that out. But it also said they won the 8th grade without them and that is not the fact. Without them, HHS beat them soundly. There's nothing wrong with that! I also stated with with them the previous two years, Conner beat HHS. Did you only read part of it?

So when Conner beat them the previous two years without Barth, should we not talk about that?

Why are you so offended by that. I constantly give the conners girls all kids of props. I love those kids! But that was not a true statement.

No Janice Stovall from Holmes for top 10 players?

Stovall would have to be considered one of the best, if not the best defender in the 9th. The young lady can flat out get after you on defense.

She's what I call a "gnat". That defender that just drives you crazy cause everywhere you turn, she's in your face!!! Frustrating to play against!!! But fun to watch!
