For all the pre game chatter for this game - Not surprised by this score.. Wasn't this a running clock last year when these two played?

The internet telecast said over 100 yards in penalties and 5 of those were personal fouls, can't win many like that. Being there, what was your assesment of both teams? Thought BC would smell blood after Keller went out, but don't think they scored after the first quarter against a soph QB.

They didn't score after the first quarter, but I'm not sure a Brossart having a sophomore quarterback had anything to do with that. He is a quarterback, not a cornerback.

Very accurate observations, All In. Honestly thought BC was perfectly positioned at half. Receiving KO, down just one score, and Mustangs best runner and solid passer, Kellar out for the game. Thought Polar Bears would smashmouth Mustangs and control scoreboard and clock. As to the Parker versus Donnelly matchup, the first half play was set early when Kellar overthrew Donnelly downfield after gaining a couple of strides separation. Tipped off his fingertips, but from then on Parker played 12 yards off him determined to not get beat deep. Probably 3 short out passes were completed to him over several possessions until a 57 yard Kellar to Donnelly TD put BB up 13-6. Donnelly caught this pass over Parker and then outran the safety who had rotated to give help deep. When Kellar went out it became obvious that the downfield threat of the longball was gone. Parker went into press coverage the entire 2nd half and I believe shutout Donnelly the rest of the game.

 

In my opinion there were two major takeaways: (1). Kellar's injury could be a major blow for any playoff run Brossart might have in them. First thought it was the dreaded high ankle sprain, but then saw ice on the knee throughout 2nd half. Let's hope it is not as bad as it appeared. (2). Not meaning to take anything away from the Mustang victory, but the Polar Bears self destructed with a billion penalties (many at very unfortunate times). If they can regain the self discipline most good player's possess, these guys could be tough going into playoffs. Candidly, Bracken Co. is a better team than they showed tonight.

Was Bracken down some O-linemen? After watching what Richardson from Nicholas did against BB, would have never believed Bracken's running attack would have just scored 13 points and defense given up 33 against a Keller-less Brossart. Bracken is in the playoffs, hope they are not settling for that. HAVE to beat Nicholas in 2 weeks for even a shot at a first ever playoff game at home. Dissapointing loss, have to regroup.

Keller getting injured is a monumental loss, but the soph that came in-Tyler MacDonald- really impressed me. It's hard to show up when your numbers called but showed great poise and threw some nice balls. Watch out for this kid coming up

Was Bracken down some O-linemen?

Yes. Frankie Collins was playing with a broken wrist and came out in the 4th. The starting QB (Trey Deaton) was out with a broken hand.

Huge effort by the Brossart defense tonight.

Bracken County hangs their hat on their running game, but scored their first TD via air. The pass, on 4th down set up a one-on-one between Jake Sendelbach and the receiver Logan Teegarden. Jake went up in an attempt to bat down the pass, and allow his team to take over on downs. Unfortunately, the jump was mis-timed, Teegarden hauled in the pass and went unmolested into the endzone.

 

Their second TD was a breakaway by the speedy Nick Parker who went 32 yards for the score. Beyond that the Mustangs defense was sterling.

 

I too was concerned at halftime kicking off to Bracken County and our senior QB sidelined. However, the Polar Bears went 3 and out and (if my stats are accurate) would produce only four more first downs for the remainder of the game.

 

Tyler MacDonald took over at QB with about 3 minutes to play in the half and the Mustangs on the march at about the 20 yard line. He completed a pass to Bryce Donnelly on his first snap, setting up a keeper that he ran 10 yards for the Brossart touchdown giving the Mustangs a 20-13 halftime lead.

 

MacDonald, on his 16th birthday, then orchestrated an 85 yard touchdown drive in the waning minutes of the third quarter, as Nate Bezold carried the Bracken County defensive hoard 16 yards into the endzone, giving the Mustangs a 27-13 lead, placing our fate squarely in the hands of the Brossart defensive unit.

 

MacDonald put the icing on the cake with 5:02 to play in the game plunging 1 yard for his second touchdown carry of the night, putting this one on ice, as the Mustangs improve to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in district play.

 

Bracken County falls to 5-2 on the season, 1-1 in district play, and 2-1 on opposition Homecoming nights. They will host Berea next week, while Brossart will take on Paris in Alexandria next Friday night.

I was impressed by the play calling of coach Wiggins with his soph Qb. He didn't call anything complicated, which appeared to give is young Qb confidence.

Bracken is one dimensional offensively. If #11 or #28 aren't getting the ball that offense goes nowhere. Quite frankly, I'm surprised #11 didn't get the ball the majority of the time because he created a lot of problems outside the tackle.

Nice win for Brossart! Bracken needs to regroup and take a look at adding some things on offense. It almost seemed like Brossart knew what they were running most of the 2nd half.
