Best high school football/basketball player ever in Kentucky

Featured Replies

Here's a question and I don't know the answer but may help narrow down the best Football/Basketball player.

How many have been named, High School All-Americans in either sport....If any have in one sport, than from that list, how many were All-State in the other sport.

If this information can be found, should be a little easier to truly, determine the answer. Some very, very good names have been listed in this thread, let's take it one step further and see how many HS All-Americans exist, which received the honor playing Football or Basketball in Kentucky and played the other sport....:thumb:

I would have to say Paul Hornung. Howard Schnellenberger also played football and basketball in High school and was all -state in football , decent in basketball. I think someone that is being over looked here recently is Mario Urrutia. He is a phenom receiver and could have played college basketball as well. He was good enough to play for some mid major basketball programs and I don't think BB could have done that .

Its a hard sell on the younger guys because their life is ahead of them , so I will stick to Hornung. Boy , Micheal Bush was recruited by some biggies for football AND basketball, but made the best decision.

Also , how can anybody leave out Wah Wah Jones from Harlan ,Ky. , I think. He made All-American in football and basketball in the 1940's at UK. Well, I changed my mind, Its Wah Wah Jones !

Now, I wasn't around to watch him but certainly heard the name.

If he was an All-American in both Football and Basketball, he has to be given consideration as one of the best, in my opinion. I know players today, have more opportunities to be "athletic" but nonetheless, how many have accomplished this feat and what other names, have been All-American in either sport.

Reggie White - He would go on to become an All-American high school football player at Chattanooga Howard, where he plays nose tackle and tight end. In addition, White was also named all-state for basketball.

Does not have anything really to do with what were talking about but I thought it was pretty cool.
