The district is between Belfry and SC, and I dont see SC beating Belfry, what would make you think it would be any different then last year?

I have no idea if it'll be different than last year, but it appears that the teams are more evenly matched this year, and I have a feeling that SC learned alot last year...mainly that there are 2 more quarters after halftime. I simply made a nuetral comment based upon the way the season has gone so far, and while I'm aware that Belfry traditionally comes on down the stretch, I think SC is probably at least equal in talent and could very well be playing better at this stage of the season. In short, this Belfry team is not as good as the last 3 or 4, and SC appears to be coming on. I'm not saying SC is better than Russell, and certainly not Mercer, but I believe they can hang in there with Belfry.

To say Belfry has already won this district is nonsense. Belfry goes to SC this year. And lets face the facts. No matter how good you think you are, you can never rule out P-Burg OR Shelby Valley for that matter.

Both teams will defintely give it their best.

I agree. If the right Shelby Valley team shows up, they have the potential to crash a party or two.

I never said Belfry had already won the district, but for anyone to think Belfry is not that good this year then they don't know what they are talking about. IMO Belfry will win the district, this Belfry team has something to prove as does the SC team, but IMO this Belfry team is going to surprise alot of people, and I am sorry but a win over Boyd and Lawrence isnt showing me anyting right now about SC and then here comes Knott Central on your schedule, what does that prove? All I am saying is that Belfry will contend for the district and region again this year, believe me they will be as good as last years team by mid-season. Belfry beat the reigning 1A state champs and went to the wire with Ashland and everyone on this site thinks the Pirates aren't as good as years past. Lets see SC schedule teams like NCC and Ashland and then we will talk!:fight:

Can't argue with that. Anyway, nice start SC, and impressive lopsided wins over two traditional cupcakes...

No one is arguing that Belfry isnt a good team and that they couldnt win the district. I just believe that SC is right there with Belfry this year, alot closer than in most years. I also believe that the district overall is alot more even than in years past.

If you know anything about scheduling you know that a contract is done a couple of years before the season ever starts. This schedule was put together after the 2004 season when Sheldon Clark went 2 - 8 including losses to East Ridge, Shelby Valley, Pike Central and Fairland. No offense to any of these schools but traditionally they are not as strong as Boyd and Lawrence. I personally think Coach Hager had some guts to schedule the 3A schools after the nightmare of that long season.

As for wins over Boyd County and Lawrence County not meaning anything I think you must be living on a different planet than the rest of us. Sheldon Clark has been drilled by these two teams year in and year out since 2001. The fact that they beat them this season does mean something to the young team and its psyche.

I am certainly not suggesting that Belfry is down this year. They won 2 State Championships in a row. They were a penalty away from playing for another championship last year. They are without question the best football program in these parts....one of the best in the state at any level. Sheldon Clark hasn't come close to beating them since 1998.

I am saying however that Sheldon Clark is a program on the rise. It began last year with a bunch of overachievers who played very hard and were extremely well coached. They play just as hard and are as well coached this year, but they are much more mature and talented......and they could still be a year away because most of their skill players are underclassmen and they only have 2 seniors on the offensive line.

As for the schedule.....I am sure it will be tougher for the Cards in the years to come and it should be. If you know anything about Shawn Hager you know he is a competitor. He is from quite a hotbed of competitors. Oh yeah, that's right.....he is a Belfry grad. To their great credit, they don't dodge anybody.

I understand the part about scheduling and agree contracts do hinder teams sometimes, but I feel they will start to schedule some tougher teams, they sure need to if they want to really gauge how good they are. I know Coach Hager is doing a great job at SC, and I wish them luck this season.

Very, VERY, impressive post!:ylsuper: :thumb:

For one the offensive backs don't have a good coach and they're out running the qb cause the speeds just not there to get the ball off fast enough. He's only a sophmore looks like he'd be a great defensive end though. Why that number 7 isn't in there as QB Lord only knows. And that number 22 has got to be the top player on that team no holds barred. 22 can kick, cut and run, and toss that pigskin better than anyone I've seen. If not for 22's being inside linebacker and still being able to cover safety that score would been more like 80-14.

I do find it hard to believe that there are posters on this thread that are questioning the head coach after only two games into his coaching regime.

that head coach has been there for more than two games just not as the top dog and he should be able to take the critics remarks. His defense has lost games over the past few years so he should have known he needed better defensive line ups. Although I will give him credit for getting rid of that spread offense we've seen fail so many times in the past. But he should see the qb isn't getting the ball off and he's got the offense to score if he can get the ball to them faster. I'd just like to see the rest of this season saved so that the lions' srs can leave on a high note

Actualy this Belfry team is very good compared to their starts last couple of years. Personaly I think this Belfry team is and will be better than last years team. If you havent seen Dustin May run yet then you are truly missing out. Belfry has 4 good running backs and a good young defense. Preston has alot of speed at qb also and as soona s the fumbles cut down they will be hard to stop.

As for SC congrats on the win and good luck Hager is a good coach and a very good person.

Since when has Shelby Valley never been able to be ruled out?? I'm not sure they've ever won a playoff game..let alone won the district. Now, if you're referring to Basketball...that's a completely different conversation.

I truely believe that this SC team, if it can stay healthy is a better overall team than is Belfry. Belfry had a good win against NCC but lost to an Ashland team that was beat soundly the week before by Raceland. This early in the season it is hard to tell who the favorites are in each district but at this point in the season i believe SC is clicking better than is Belfry. But talk is cheap and this game will be settled on the field where it should be. Regardless both teams are solid teams and will represent this area well come playoff time.

I certainly wouldn't say Ashland was beaten soundly by Raceland. In fact, the tomcats, from a stats perspective, dominated that ballgame.....
