I just think it's alot to ask for a team and a new cooach to gel in a month and go 11 and 1 or 10 and 2. It could happen because some of those teams arent world beaters but after you kicked their butt last year you will have a target on your back. But I like the Indians really.

You may be right. My question is how can you tell with Hoptowns weak schedule. They play 2 teams (Graves and Christian) and the rest aren't worth playing. I don't blame them for their district games but the rest I do. Caldwell plays 3 teams in this league (Christian, Franklin, and Mayfield) but they also play 3 additional teams that will challenge them and make them better (N Hardin, P Tilghman and Henderson). I am rewarding a team with strong players coming back AND a strong schedule. Hoptown simply doesnt have this. So they will look great on paper, but that will not prepare them for the playoffs and will not garner them a high Power Ranking.

I also like Russellville alot but their 2-way guys would get gassed against Caldwell, just not enough horses.

I will move these teams around when they win and lose, but don't expect to soar very high with a 50-0 win over Logan Couty.

After 2014, I have a lot of respect for the Eagles. To be honest, they are hard to guage. They have one of the better YOUNG QBs around, but has he gotten all the jitters out (had more INTs than TDs last year - I know he was a Frosh, but still need to see it). Best player from last year graduated, who will relace him and the TOUGH yards he gained? I don't know. I do know they are gritty and will never quit and are well coached. But you play in a very tough district and have both teams I project better than you on the road in back to back weeks. I'm not anti-Eagles, but the load is heavy.

So is this the year Graves beats the cross town rivals?

Or will Mayfield make it 8 in a row?

If I have the correct figures, Mayfield leads the series 18-5 and has out scored Graves 600-279 or 26ppg to 12ppg

2) Mayfield (2A) – [2015 Record 14-1] As I said in a previous post, for the “6 seasons from 2010 thru 2015, Mayfield has lost a total of 4 games. 3 of those are to larger class schools (and 2 of those in OT). 5 State Titles and lost to Hazard in the 2011 (1A) State Championship game”. Coach Joe Morris’ team continues to be the model of consistency. Will they make it 5 Straight is the question! 16 SRs depart from the well-oiled machine; most notably K Sidney Herndon, who was a real weapon for Big Red and WR/DB Lane Kennemore who did everything but park cars and sell popcorn. Mayfield returns a lot; most notably SR QB Landon Arnett and Mr. Football Candidate SR RB Trajon Bright both behind a very solid returning OLine. On defense, all 3 starting LBs return and they are good ones led by SR Kincer Arnett. The DLine and secondary “also look to be well stocked”, according to our good friend @Toothpick. Sorry but my stats source doesn’t have 2015 Mayfield season stats so if Mayfield fans want to add them, please do. So Mayfield will be looking to integrate some new WRs and a kicker but other than that it seems business as usual for the 12 Time State Champions!

Well I know they are good Purple88, but how can you put them above other higher class schools on this Power Ranking list? Well, I’m glad you asked. First, having a higher classification # doesn’t mean you’re a better football team, it means you have more kids (male kids that is) at your school. I honestly think that Mayfield is the Best Program in the State “Pound for Pound”. Yes, there are others I would put above them if # of players is not an issue, but VERY few. Second, Mayfield doesn’t take a week off. What do I mean by this? They ALWAYS schedule up for their out of district competition. Every week for “at least” the past 6 seasons they play out of district schools that are larger than them. This and a great coaching staff IMO has galvanized this program for success. And finally, they are a more complete team returning than any above. Add the return of OCoordinator Steven Hatchell (back from a stint in South Carolina) to an already terrific offense/offensive scheme and you are loaded and looking for your 5th Straight State Championship. Schedule Highlight: September 9 at 6A McCracken County. The Mustangs have had Mayfield’s # the last 2 seasons, but just barely, winning both games in OT by a combined 8 points. This year’s game is sure to entertain all Purchase Area Fans. Week 0 August 19 at home vs 3A Fort Campbell at 7PM.

Graves will utilize 3 different RB's..Mathis at QB has been given the green light to run if he sees the opportunity..as for Graves, I see them in a close game with Christian county, but honestly see them handling owensboro rather easily..JMO...now in regard to them beating mayfield, that would be great, but Mayfield is always the flagship program of western ky if not the entire state!!.

I understand that completely, & fully respect owensboro & Rash, but I just feel Graves will be to much for them..Graves was down last season, and hung with Owensboro to the wire losing 20-19..they should be much improved..but nothing but respect for owensboro!

I have no problem with you standing up for your team. In fact, it makes the that game more interesting. I work in Owensboro some. Might have to schedule to be there for that one. Would be fun!

I figured that was your reasoning. If I was a Graves fan, I'd feel as if OHS was overrated too. OHS flat laid an egg in that game and Graves almost (should have) made them pay. It's kinda what happened to BG when Graves upset them a couple of years ago. Graves is the type of program that isn't going to beat you with talent and numbers, but will do it with execution and heart.

 

Graves may very well beat OHS, but if ya'll do it "rather easily", I'll be "rather shocked".
