I'm probably in this camp as well.

We had flag football for little kids...never heard of tackle football for kids close to that small.

 

Practically, where do you find enough equipment that small? Do parent's pay for it?

I have no issue with kids playing football. I think that SOME of the concussion coverage has been overhyped. I have no issue with parents saying, "Absolutely not" either b/c obviously the risk/reward ratio isn't all that high for them.

 

4 year old football seems like that game where everyone gets into huge bubbles and run into each other. Why not worry about teaching footwork and concepts as opposed to footwork, concepts, tackling, blocking, AND plays. 4 year olds can't even pick up the soccer concept of SPREAD OUT. How are they learning which hole to run through?

I'm not sure there is any benefit to 4 year olds playing football outside of the social and physical activity aspect, aside from just getting them involved in the game. Even at the 5-6 year old level, there isn't very much hard contact.

 

I get the concerns about injury and concussions. But remember, serious, and even deadly injuries can occur in any sport. I'm more worried about my kid pitching at a young age and taking a line drive off the noggin than playing football.

I have many reasons. But I'll start with, football is boring as hell.

Outside of the NFL, completely agree.

For those who wouldn't let their kids play football. Are you going to let them drive a car?

Much better chance of getting severely injured on the car ride to soccer practice.

When they're a kid? Umm, no. Once they hit driving age, of course.

Lots of risk in the world. Again, people don't think twice about baseball with aluminum bats and hard projectiles flying around at high speeds on bumpy, poorly maintained fields, with very little protective equipment outside of 11-12 inch leather glove on one hand. Or soccer where part of the strategy is to direct the ball with your head. Or riding bikes, skateboards, driving cars, climbing trees whatever. All physical sports have the risks. I've seen devastating injuries in many sports, and even in gym class.
