One water break in 30 years, thats impressive.

Think the Camels could excel under those restrictions?

OLD SCHOOL!!!! Run till you puke, pansies! That's how winners are made.

Golly, am I the only one old enough to remember salt tablets at water breaks on two-a-days?

I think your stated increased schedule demand is the greatest contributor to the current guidelines and regulations not old school approaches.

Please note there have been examples of poor coaching, bad judgement, and mis-diagnosed medical conditions that have at worst contributed to loss of life and that is a tragedy when it comes to summer football practices.

I was one of many kids in the 80s who were guided by common sense, sound leadership, discipline, hard work, ....and again we survived 6 hours of heat a day in August in the Ohio Valley without many issues.

A big difference then vs now is the lack of natural gas! Add 10-20 degrees to field surface temps if not more...

Don't understand the lack of natural gas comment. We avoided beans at lunch of two-a-days, but some of the heavier lineman still had plenty of gas to release when they got in their 3 point stance! Coaches' angry response of laps added lots of heat.

What do you think makes Trinity so tough?

Yup, no water on the field, had to run down to the outside faucet by the locker oom for a drink of lukewarm water.

I remember salt tablets

I've never taken a salt tablet. Our trainers didn't even offer them to us in the mid to late 80's when I played. There were guys that did get hold of some and took them without the coaches or trainers knowing.

I remember no water breaks and salt tablets after practice.

Old school is what got us to the current rules. We also didn't have spring football, 7 on 7's, or June practices in the old days. Summer baseball would end in early July and we'd get almost the whole month off before football started on August 1st, and our first contact wouldn't happen until around August 10th. So while two a days are rare, I'd say football is more demanding and more of a year round commitment now then it was in the old days.

To some extent yes, but it was also a piece of feel good legislation in response to a tragedy.

Does water ever taste as good as it did on the practice field? Like hose-delivered liquid gold.

I never took one either.

I didn't play football but I remember some of the seniors taking them during basketball conditioning
