I agree with Super.. Somerset laid an egg last week, but they are a solid team that can put points up in a hurry... Cobb will have his guys ready for Fri. and this match-up is rarely a blow-out either way so I think it will be a closer game than some think...

I don't think so. This game has been, for the most part, very closely played in the past. I don't look for anything other than that this week. Both teams are coming off a loss and will be hungry for that first W. It could be closer than most of you are thinking, but on the other hand ....

CROSS-TOWN-RIVAL just remember those are the games your talking about when your 50!! Look for another great game. No predictions, I know several players on both teams and wish them both well. I root for all local teams just so happen to have been a SW supporter for the past 5 years and will continue to be one. Good luck guys and stay healthy..................LTW.

Already predicted a score. Just think that SW will wear down the Briar Jumpers in the trenches.

Just remember it is a cross-town rivalry and these games have potential to go to the wire.

Looking forward to seeing all of the new work on Somerset's field to see if it is in the shape it used to be.

I hope both teams play well and the Warriors come out on top in this one.

Imo the field and complex is in its best shape in the last 20 years. There have been a tremendous amount of work done on the field, track, bleachers, fencing, and restrooms. For all attending to get to the visitor side this year you will have to walk around the outside of the track on the north side-just like Admiral Stadium. Since the track has completely been refinished they have added fencing around the track to the visitor section.

Hey Jumper1, how can I get one of those up close and personal parking passes like they had last couple years? They make us park across the street and there were blocked off spaces no one was in..........................LTW.

I'm not for sure, I will check on that in the morning if I can. If you thought parking was a problem before, then lookout tomorrow! Somerset has also put new fencing up between the football complex and Meece Middle so you can't park in the grass no more....

I guess I should go on and head over tonight and pitch a tent then lol.

Somerset needed to go back to Basic Tackling 101 after seeing them against Franklin County. It appears to me that Southwestern has to much strength in the trenches for the Jumpers.

strongopenyon I can garuntee you those lineman have been working out 5 to 6 days a week since november, Coach Girdler takes pride in having the top offense and defensive lines, he settles for only the best out of his big men.

This has no bearing on tonight's game which SW should win by a couple of scores. However, I did some research and the people that are picking a blowout, regardless of what happened at Male, should maybe look at this:

Overall records since 1998 (that's all that's on KHSAA)

Somerset Southwestern Pulaski Co.

64-33 .660 57-35 .620 44-44 .500

9-2 in co. 6-6 in co. 4-11 in co.

3-1 vs. SW 1-3 vs. SHS 1-6 vs. SHS

6-1 vs. PC 5-3 vs. PC 3-5 vs. SW

9-8 playoffs 4-8 playoffs 3-5 playoffs

2 dist. champs. 2 district champs. 0 district champs

2 reg. champs 0 region champs. 0 region champs

28.9 pts scrd. 30.8 pts. scrd 27.9 pts. scrd.

20.1 allowed 19.9 allowed 25.6 allowed

Overall Somerset is 13-4 against Pulaski and 6-3 against Southwestern. Pretty impressive for the smallest team in the county.

If my memory is right wasn't there a "few years" when Somerset would not play SW? The Scott Blair and DT Boone years, but that is a whole other topic.

In 99 Somerset started playing only one county team each year. That year both Somerset's and SW's scores against Danville and PC were very similar. That year Somerset advanced to the state semifinals while SW lost as a #1 seed in the first round of the playoffs to a #4 seed. If you look at their record overall Somerset has no apologies to make to either one of the county schools as their record dominates the two series even though they are the smallest team. If you look at numbers Somerset should almost never beat either of the county teams.
