Any thoughts on this year's teams?

Varsity, jv, and freshman....

I think varsity team has the potential to be better than last year's team. A Lot more versatility.

No chance they are better.

No chance they are better.

I hope for the best, and I do think they have some talent, but last year's team was the best in the region for a decent portion of the season and swept CovCath, NewCath, Cooper and Holmes ..... The Indians were a very, very good team until Bezold got hurt against NewCath the second time. So I will agree with Clyde .....

Agree with Clyde and Pete Mitchell that on paper the Indians will be hard pressed to match last year's 23 win season, however they do have some experience coming back led by the big fella in the paint in Derrick Barnes. I really look for him to take more of a scoring role this year and I think he will. Has been much more aggressive offensively so far this summer.

Seniors Jaylin Williams, Will Volpenhein and Joey Meinze will factor in along with Juniors Nolan Schrand, Jordan Niehaus, Parker Zimmerman and Yeiner Gonzales. The Indians also boast one of the best Sophomore duos in the area in Ty Houston & Spencer Macke.

While they lost some key seniors from this past year, I still think they can compete in the 35th district and have a very good shot at making it to a 2nd straight regional tournament. Obviously Cov Cath will be the clear team to beat again in the 35th (And the 9th region). It will be a battle for the 2nd spot out of this district in my opinion.

Far too many holes to fill with the departure of Bezold, Schrand, and Jakubowski. They will be competitive but they will have a tough task trying to replace those 3. Good luck to the Indians none the less.

And I should clarify, I'm not down on the Indians, I just think last year's team was exceptional, much better than almost anyone expected. I think there are only two teams in northern Kentucky this year (CovCath and Cooper) that can be as good as Holy Cross was last year pre-Bezold injury.

One thing is for sure, they will need a different style of play with this group. The three point shooters are there, but Meinze and Barnes at 4-5 can be hard to deal with. And Williams can get to the basket with ease. The other guys on the team have the ability to step up and make plays. Like I said, they have the POTENTIAL, now let's hope it all comes together.

I think this years team has a chance to be better than last year's team. This years team will be bigger faster and more athletic with a chance to be better defensively than last year's team.

I think this team will be good but better than last year's team is a real stretch. Last year, they had 3 consistent 3 point shooters and 2 could take you off the dribble. They will also miss the senior leadership provided by Schrand and Bezold.

I dont know the answer to this question. in the case of Barnes, if you sign a football scholarship, will the university frown on playing high school basketball. if so, this team loses even more.

I dont see how they can be better. Who and how will they make up the scoring from Schrand & Bezold? The ball was in the hands of those 2 players the majority of the time. Plus, those two created opportunities for the rest of the team. Bez did so many 'little' things that will be impossible to replace. Those guys were 3 year starters...hard to replace.

This team will can shoot the ball as well last years team but this team is bigger and more athletic. This team is also senior dominated. They may start the year off a little sluggish but I fully expect this team to gel together quickly and play very well. This team probably will not look like last years team stylistically.

In case of Barnes I hope he and his family will make the choice that best suits his situation.

I can understand how you don't see it, but I see the talent they have and its pretty substantial in their senior and junior classes.

Prediction-

.500 season

District Runner Up

Out in Region Semi's

There are other options on this team that most of you don't even know. Watching them a little in the summer school stuff doesn't give you everything. I have watched Barnes, Williams, Leimier, and Meinze play together more than any body on here except for their AAU coach. Things they can do on the court, hopefully HC can get that out of them as well.

I think this team will surprise some people, especially if they can gel early, which could be tough if football makes a deep playoff run.

I don't think they'll get past CovCath, but I don't think they take a big step back.
