June 20, 201610 yr 41 years ago today, June 20, 1975, The First Summer Blockbuster burst upon movie screens across the country....and we were all afraid to go back into the water. Helped along by an unbelievable PG rating, this movie blew up the box office.
June 20, 201610 yr Author One of a handful of movies from that genre that holds up over the decades. This movie will endure for decades to come.
June 20, 201610 yr Author Just watched it for the umpteenth time this weekend! So did I. I was 8 when I saw it at the local theater and the head popping out of the hole in the boat scared the bejeebers out of me. I was afraid to go to the bathroom at the theater, I was sure the shark was waiting in there :lol2:
June 20, 201610 yr Author I'm 52 and have never watched much of this movie. Just never had an interest. It's a really good movie...the fact that the shark isn't really seen until way into the movie really adds to the suspense. Even though that was an accident, the Shark worked fine in fresh water pools where it was built and tested but broke down constantly in the salt water on set. Meaning many scenes the shark was supposed to be seen in had to be re-shot with just hints and glimmers of the shark. Most (not saying you) that had no interest in seeing it thought the entire movie was just a shark going around eating people over and over...I think his body count ends up around only 4 or 5.
June 20, 201610 yr Author I'm 52 and have never watched much of this movie. Just never had an interest. I'm the same way about ET, I'm nearly 50 and haven't seen more than 10 minutes of that movie. I do like Reese's Pieces though.

June 20, 201610 yr As I've said before, I was a beach lifeguard that summer. Folks were a little bit antsy about venturing out very far - even if it was the Chesapeake Bay.
June 20, 201610 yr Author Quint's soliloquy is one of the great scenes in film. I saw a documentary where they were talking to sailors from the Indianapolis, they were moved that their story was told in the movie, albeit briefly.
June 20, 201610 yr Author The burning question - as long as Billy Joel? I'd guess Jaws will be more well known in 200 years than Billy Joel.
