Room and Board

I wasn't sure where to post this because this pertains to multiple sports but I had a question. One, if your team makes a state tournament, I had noticed that the KHSAA has assigned each region a place to stay. Is this furnished by the KHSAA or does that school have to cover the costs? I had noticed that some teams arrived a couple of days before their team played in the state tournament but others showed up right before game time and left town after their game, even though they won. I was just curious. Thanks!

Not 100% sure but something like this. KHSAA pays for the first night that you play. If you win you get another night and lose you have to go or your school will play for the rooms. Win second game and your good. I think that the way it was under the old format but with the Sunday format now, not sure.

Khsaa gives money allowance but it doesn't get close to covering the costs.

I noticed that CovCath got the sort of expensive hotel two years ago at state...

All A pays a lot more for teams than the all school state tourney.

Correct. It's not even close.

The All A State Tourney's are run like a well oiled machine.

Khsaa probably isn't involved with All A

Correct. As far as I know the only KHSAA involvement is that they are KHSAA schools.

This is my experience from when Boyle County went to the Sweet 16 in 2015. The Boyle County booster club and Boyle County High School covered a lot of the expenses of Boyle County's Final Four run. It costs money when you win. It's cheaper to lose early. :lol2:

It is cheaper but worth it to have to pay.

No doubt! We'd love to have those expense every year. Word.

When Fairdale won Back-to-Back in 1990 and 1991 it cost us over $5000. In 1994 every time we won a game it cost us $936…we won the State Champinship. Back then they paid for five rooms…that's for players, coaches and staff. They gave you $10 a day for 15 people. We only put two players in a room for our 10 best players. The head coach and every assistant coach had a single room for his family. Managers were put four to a room. Our cheerleaders stayed home because we were playing in Freedom Hall. In Lexington they stayed in a different hotel. You could go to the tournamnet the day before you played…after that, if you lost your expenses were cut off the next morning. BUT…winning the state was worth every penny we spent.
