Does the KHSAA have rules and penalties for unacceptable behavior at these showcases?

My reason for asking: I just heard that a kid was punched today at a showcase game. The kid that threw the punch was ejected from the game. The same kid shoved a girl in the face / was T'd up in a showcase game last week.

 

Does she or the coach face any disciplinary penalty?

I was there and that kid should be suspended for several games if not longer.

No, the KHSAA has no penalties for summer basketball.

The school should definitely take action.

I used to occasionally officiate summer high school ball. Worked the Ohio state tournament one year. Problem is lack of accountability. A team was getting killed the coach started going off on every call. We ran him. Problem is he's right back coaching at 4:00 that same day. Nothing to lose if your team is getting killed.

There are no KHSAA sanctions for summer ball issues. It all depends no the tolerance level of the officials and those running the games.

 

At a camp last week, two opposing parents (Dads) were jawing pretty heavily with each other and it was escalating quickly. Some of the "administrators" intervened by going to sit by them. Also had kids getting whacked for stupidity that would likely get them intentional calls or ejections during the season. These are good training grounds for all involve in what is acceptable.

 

Part of the bigger issue is parents attending summer camps and wanting the games called like a District final...yet complaining if they are asked to pay.

 

Summer ball should require about $10 / head to get in the gym....maybe it would curb the stupid level of the attendees in the stands. If a kid or coach gets whacked, there should be a penalty for that as well. If it continues, they should be banned from the gym(s).

If that kid was on my team, she would be in tip top shape for the season after I ran her legs off.

In my opinion, those two things have absolutely nothing to do with one another. We all know that tempers are more likely to flare when referees allow rougher than normal play. Parents (like me) want the obvious fouls to be called so that it doesn't escalate into something like yesterday's event. AND... the most adamant parents are not going to stay home because the price of admission is steep. There will just be fewer people in the gym when they go nuts.

 

Also, how is the summer a good training grounds on "what's acceptable" if there are no consequences to horrible behavior? A lack of punishment is basically condoning the behavior.

Etown coach pulled them out of the Mercy hoopsfest after this game. From all accounts, he apologized to the opposing coach and players, Mercy organizers and lit into his players after the game. For the sake of those kids on his team, I hope he continues to follow through with what appeared to be a strong plan of discipline for those involved.

Consequences and punishment should be coming from the coach. KHSAA isn't going to police summer ball.
