The point is we are rewarding illegal activity from immigration to tax evasion, fraud with American taxpayer money in the form of benefits and dumping the payscale down the toilet costing Americans jobs and income. If people come legally and assimilate and our country allows that, that's fine. No matter what you identify your political beliefs as this is an American problem. Rewarding illegal activity to gain political favor at the cost of your own country is deplorable and treasonous.

 

How much more are you willing to pay for your groceries so we can eradicate this crime?

Obviously, when I say "we", I mean the country as a whole, not you and I specifically.

 

Again, I have no issues with someone fixing or trying to fix the problem. The issue I have is we are hyper focused on just one piece of the puzzle...the immigrants. And that people are demonizing and painting them as villains to support their argument. The reality though, is that these people provide a significant benefit to our economy, and are doing so because business owners continue to hire and employ them...illegally. They are just as, if not more culpable in this problem. And they never get mentioned or demonized.

 

The government use to years ago raid businesses that hired illegals. The new leadership on the left has all but abandoned this practice in order to try to gain political favor. Politicians are not serving Americans interests.

I think many on the right look at this issue with tunnel vision. Not once have I said it's not a problem. I'm just not choosing to ignore the other piece of the problem, or the implications of and what it's going to take to solve the problem. That's not feeling sorry for anyone, or guilty...it's being realistic and not letting my anger drive the decision making. Being realistic and considering all sides has nothing to do with "right" or "left". And it drives me crazy that so many on the right think that makes me a bad person, or as you so kindly say treasonous.

I would, but I don't have that kind of pull. Just remember, that many of the owners of those businesses are your party. Once, this isn't an issue you can just dump on the left. This goes back a long way. Maybe if we stopped making this such a left/right issue, perhaps we could start working towards solving it.

I don't think anyone's missed the point. We all agree the issue is serious and needs to be addressed. Addressing it involves a hell of a lot more than just "build a wall". There's many layers to the problem, and it needs to addressed at each of them.

It's no secret that the left is ignoring the problem in order to Garner favor with them. Trying to find loopholes to register them to vote even though they here illegally. They are also trying to garner favor in case they are given amnesty. To me that is selling out the American people for political purposes and it is bull.

So what was Reagan's reason for granting amnesty in the 80's?? Amnesty doesn't give voting rights. It's creates a clearer path to citizenship for those who are gainfully employed, contributing, and law abiding. Who are people we'd want in our population. But even with amnesty, voting would still be illegal, and carry significant penalties if caught. And while there are plenty of "claims" and rumors of illegal voting, it's never been proven or verified on on a large (or even small) scale. The "loopholes" you mention still don't result in legal voting, and are largely based on fears, rather than fact.

 

Again, we can't even get our citizens to vote...do you think we'll be more successful getting folks who want to stay hidden to come out and vote illegally?? A case of fears vs common sense.
