I'd argue that he doesn't know anything about high school basketball coaches and what they do or don't do more than I do. Just because he is the best college football coach ever doesn't mean he knows squat about high school basketball coaches. So yeah, he is dumb for making this statement. He's taking a shot at basketball for some unknown reason and he looks like a fool in doing so.

The reason why it isn't is because 7 on 7 is not "real" football, so college coaches don't put as much stock into it as college basketball coaches put into AAU basketball.

He's not saying coaches of other sports don't play a role, Saban is suggesting AAU and Club teams have devalued high school coaches, because most AAU and Club coaches don't have the particular rules they have to follow like high school coaches.

I know and understand the role that AAU plays in getting kids to college but the work that high school coaches do isn't seen because they don't have to sell their program to get shoe money or top notch recruits to help make them money. They don't tweet out their results to show the world what they have done but those dudes put in work. Saban acting like they don't rubs me the wrong way big time.

A lot of the big city great bball players go through the AAU coach. Even the great Charles Barkley said AAU is the worst thing that has ever happened to bball. But you are right you know more about this recruiting stuff than Saban. I would say Saban talks to a heck of a lot of high school basketball coaches because he watches them play bball to when he recruits them.

I have worked in HS's for 10+ years and I have never seen a division 1 basketball coach enter the halls of the HS in those 10 years. Whereas you will find multiple football programs from all levels entering the schools yearly. I would be willing to bet that D1 baskeball coaches talk to AAU coaches and handlers 90% more than they talk to HS coaches...

There are only so many kids going D-1 to play basketball. I keep forgetting that D-1 is the only level that matters though. My fault. Saban is right. He should have clarified that it only matters if it is D-1.
