I've said summer ball isn't about winning, but development of players. But sure, if you can get a win out of it, do it. Give them some confidence knowing that they can win, because I know the players would love to win even though it technically doesn't mean anything.

 

Good opportunity to teach clock management in close games, which intersquad scrimmages have trouble replicating.

 

As for Crawford scoring 40+, it's going to happen in the regular season, so let the players get used to it in preseason. Even though Crawford is doing the scoring, the other players still have roles.

Regardless, thus thread here as kind of turned into a G-Town camp review. Summer basketball is what is and I think "good, experienced" Coaches will tell you it's more of an overall evaluation and preview of his team's personnel, teamwork, attitudes, etc. but not much more.

 

The most significant item mentioned here in relation to the BC season outlook is the loss of Jacob Hamilton. IMHO, this is huge for BC to deal with, especially in the early part of the season. Jacob was a very steady and talented player who impacted the game on both ends of the floor so figuring out who fills his roles will be key to their ultimate success.

 

However, I support he and his family's decision not to play 100%. This young man is great on and off the court/track and he will be getting a college scholarship to run track/cross country at a very high level. I know this decision wasn't reached without a lot of thought and angst but it is absolutely the right decision for him and his family. I hope the BC faithful an accept that decision in the positive manner it was made and support this fine young man and his family accordingly.

I think a lot of folks are more amused and entertained with "bracken co basketball" then worried.

Jacob is a wonderful young man and this had to be a tough decision for him. I'm sure he also loves basketball. Protecting his athletic ability for a scholarship, after running so well at state, is a very mature decision for someone so young. I know he has the support from his Mom and Dad in his decision. Stay healthy and Good Luck to Jacob in whatever you pursue.

As far as Bracken Basketball, I comment on many threads about many issues and I wish Austin and company good luck in the coming season and I always defend any of the kids, especially Austin, when comments are negatively directed at any one player. In Jacob's case, I was just trying to head off any derogatory comments. BC will be pre-season 1 or 2 in the Region regardless.

Even though the loss of Hamilton looks bad on paper, they seemed to fair well without him last year... Beat Pendleton County and only made a point difference against Mason County where he first quit.

I'm confused Woodstock: you seem to argue they're not very good in the 1st thread and that they're great in the second. You need to let a few people post in between to provide cover for the contradiction.
