3rd Party Candidate Ross Perot cost G.H.W. Bush the Election against Bill Clinton. Clinton won the election with only 43% of the vote, while Perot pulled 18.9% of which the majority would have went to Bush who finished with 37.4% of the vote.

 

3rd Party Candidiate Ralph Nader cost Al Gore the Election against George Bush. I think it's safe to say that the majority of the 97,000 votes Nader received in Florida would have went to Gore, which would have handed him a Florida and National Victory.

 

In both cases the 3rd party candidate cost the candidate they most closely aligned with to lose the election.

@Getslow is correct. A 3rd party can't just jump up every 4 years and expect to make much noise. Libertarians and Tea Partiers for all of their independence, that is what is hurting them nationally. They need a National Operation to get a unified voice out, drive support for candidates across the country and become a bigger player on the national stage. That all starts by winning local elections and those candidates filtering up.

 

A 3rd party needs to have a nominating process like the R's and D's where there is a national conversation, debates and primary elections. (States IMO would need to have open primaries for this to ever get any traction)

You said lily white.. All Republicans aren't lily white. You are way off base. My conscious isn't lily white, it's cultivated from pretty broad life experiences. Most of my friends are democrats. That's the point. The fact is most voters are uninformed and do no research on who they are voting for, just follow the herd mentality. That goes for both wings on the bird.

Third parties can be spoilers. They cost one Bush the White House and gave it to his son. They need to move beyond that.

Thats the catch-22. Due to ballot-access rules they can't get to that point without support.

Fair enough. Truthfully, I'm probably some weird Libertarian/Green Party hybrid.

Nothing Donald has says excites me. Also I know he can't raise tariffs without congressional support , which he won't have. Hillary will have Democrat support for her agenda. Hillary scares me more than any politician in my life. She is the definition of corruption and lies.

 

Trust me in my perfect world we would run everything by the bible of Friedman. Libertarian party is where I should be but they have no organzation or structure. I truly believe the Libertarian message is where a majority of American would agree with.

 

The thing that bugs me most about the two party system is how people on both sides of aisle feel the need to agree with everything their party says. Neither Democrats or Republicans have a core philosophy. Libertarians do and it's simple keep government out of your life.

 

 

It's why the transgender debate is so simple if a business wants to allow transgender bathrooms I'm cool with it let the market decide. I just don't like the government chiming in tell people what they habe to do.

To the bolded, I couldn't possibly agree more. We see it on this website where people talk about whether someone is a true conservative, and when someone disagrees with the predictable opinion they are labeled a liberal with all of the preconceptions that go along with it. As a country we are severely lacking in individual thought among single issues in the aggregate.

To add to that if your a certain race , sexuality, or gender you are expected to follow group think or being labeled a traitor and a crazy person.
