Yes. Home team usually keeps track of the pitch count. Coaches meet after the games to agree on pith counts. Number of pitches the pitcher throws limits the amount of days until they can pitch again,

1-25 no days rest

26-51 I believe is 1 days

52-76 I believe is 2 days

77 + is 3 max days

If reported to the state and they can show the pitch count and he was indeed over, the player is deemed ineligible and the team is penalized for using an ineligible player.

In a perfect world each team matches up between innings. The home team has the official count.

 

Once a player hits the limit of 120 he finishes pitching to that batter and is then removed.

 

Umpires are removed from the process.

 

I'd say the KHSAA would get involved if a team feels the other team violated the rule. I know it happened at least once in the 9th this year when it was done by mistake.

The limit on the number of pitches is based on the level of pitching. Specific rest periods are in place when a pitcher reaches a threshold of pitches delivered in a day. The rest periods required during the regular and postseason are listed below:

What happens if a team continues to use a pitcher once a limitation has been reached?

 

The coach shall remove the player from the game. Should this not happen, the school and coach violating the pitch count should be reported to the KHSAA. Keep in mind that once a player is not eligible, there are penalties (forfeiture, fine, other administrative penalties on the coach/school) that will be assessed.

In the Regional Tournaments, there might be scenarios develop where a player pitched 30 to 40 pitches on the day before and the coach will pitch him on the next day and take his chances with the consequences.

 

However, I would not take that risk!

KHSAA would not rule on the pitch count protest until after the game was over. If the pitcher was over by a couple of pitches in a prior game, would the KHSAA stand firm with the forfeiture?

I understand that the protest wouldn't happen until after the game but it should be reported immediately. How quick the KHSAA takes notice and rules? I have no idea.

 

If they are serious about protecting arms and enforcing the pitch count, they better stand firm with the ineligible player and subsequent forfeiture ruling.

KHSAA is currently reviewing a case.

I heard someone say, I think they were talking about high schools, when the pitcher has reached his pitch count, he is removed and his starting catcher also. Since the catcher had just as many pitches. Not that knowledgeable about current rules since Papaw and I coached about 100 years ago. Just curious.
